Although I know that some folks in the world consider their pets their children, I don't think it should be done on a family tree. I would like to see some different way to include our animal companions. Like in the way we put schools in our section which can include pictures. I think that would be the perfect way to incorporate our pets. I would love to include my pets in my section but I don't want them showing up as one of my children. Perhaps an add on that would show up in a report under Animal companions where photos can be put and names and information.

Thanks for listening

Joe

This is a known issue.  See conversations HTML report displays pets as unknown gender and My dog is classified as my son?.

I have read those prior messages and the replies seemed to read that the fix would be in the report generator. I think it would be prudent not to have to imput a pet as a decendent in the first place. Looks like the creation of a tab in the individual and family section would be better. With the ability to imput data and photos. I didn't read anything of that nature in the message replies posted.

I have read those prior messages and the replies seemed to read that the fix would be in the report generator.

The report generator is not aware of anything regarding families, parents and children.  All the report generator does is binding a script engine (VBScript or JavaScript) to data objects within GenoPro.

Although the fix cannot be done in the report generator code, the same fix could be done in GenoPro by excluding pets as children.  The bottom of the problem is GenoPro considers pets as children, thus the report generator simply outputs pets as descendents of any family.  The same applies for foster and adopted children.  I am thinking of a solution by adding an option to the pedigree link to specify if this pedigree link count as a child of its parent family.  This option will be enabled by default, however the user could then exclude a children and/or a pet from a specific family.

I'm probably the last person to say anything regarding program design, since I don't know a thing about it, however I think the solution is simpler than any of that. I noticed that in the education tab you can drop down the school's name  and  edit it with address and pictures and other interesting information. I am wondering why a similar thing can't be done for pets? Have a data field for them and then you can drop down the names of the pets and hit the edit pets line and input a photo, birth and death dates ,type of animal and so on. I also noticed that the schools and photo's show up in the report online so something similar would be sufficient for pets as well. They would be connected to the individual or to the family. With some basic information that was input. This way pets wouldn't show up on the family tree graph but would be there for the generated reports. Just my humble opinion on the subject.
