The sad thing is that I have no recordings of my ancestors, not even my late parents!

Voice recording can be encoded at a sample rate of 11 kHz for an output bitrate of 16 kbps. Such encoding of an MP3 audio requires about 100 KB for one minute, or one MB for 10 minutes of audio recording. There are better formats than MP3, such as Ogg Vorbis which can reduce the file size by about 40% for voice recording. I don't think we will be able to compress more, because there is a limit on what compression can do. Ogg is very CPU intensive compared to MP3.The current bottleneck is the developer (me). I have to prioritize which features to include in each version. My focus is completing version 2.0...

I followed the link and ended up on the topic Multi Media support and then File attachments. It's related OK but what I've got in mind is something (for a start) simpler and more realistic, i.e. a 1 minute, or so, voice record of an Ind. When viewing the Ind web page, clicking on a new button, will run his/her voice. This will entail the voice file (MP3 for example) to also be loaded on the web site, along with the other pictures and htm files.
The actual problem may be the audio file(s) size. OK fair enough. I extrapolated from some of my MP3 files and found that a 1 minute record at 56 Kbps will take about 411KB. Having said that, we should not forget that the technology is advancing at full speed in the terms of "Audio Compression" and perhaps more importantly "Hard Disc Capacity". If I remember well, about 20 years ago, the comp in our office was only a 40 Meg. Now we're rather talking about Giga. Nobody knows, but in 10, 20 or 100 years time, people will probably express HD capacity in Tera, Peta, Exa, Zetta or Yotta-bytes. It is why I used above "for a start" because I believe Genopro should not be refrained by this eventual "file size problem" and go ahead with the voice feature. And upon the future technology market status, to also include Videos and other demanding file size media files within Genopro.

Unless the sub has already been discussed, I suggest Genopro to implement a facility for keeping record(s) of Ind voice. This should also be included within a generated report. We usually have photos of relatives but what about voices? I don't even have myself the record of my parents voice. Do you? But I'm sure, some users have and may be quite interested in this suggestion. Thank you.
