Hello

Just a small problem with the Report Generator V2b19f.

I like to edit the Report Generator files (*.htm, *.html, *.xml and *.css) with Dreamweaver. Unfortunately, it now corrupts the Dictionary.xml file. So does Microsoft Word.

I can take a bare Dictionary.xml file load it in Dreamweaver or Word, save it, and errors are reported creating a report.

Microsoft Notepad works o/k. I like using Dreamweaver because it has line numbers and colour coding.

Thanks

Thanks for the idea Appleshaw.

I didn't mean to imply that Notepad is a good editor or that I prefer using it.

I was just trying say that Dictionary.xml can no longer be edited with Dreamweaver or Wordpad. It worked o/k with 2b19e but not with 2b19f.

I like Dreamweaver especially for *html files because you see the result of changes to the HTML files without saving and launching.

Thanks

You can use pspad as well Smile, full of syntax highlighting, direct edit on FTP site, etc. http://www.pspad.com/

Could you attach a sample Dictionary file, pre and post saving with Word or Dreamweaver so that I can see the differences? When I try opening Dictionary.xml with Word 2000 and saving again, the only difference is that ® is replaced by (r). The file is opened and saved using UTF-8 encoding. This difference can be avoided by replacing ® with the entity ®.

Hi, I found this:

The option Make label/ Exclude from report works different in beta 19f when you mark an adopted or foster child, The person is excluded from the report, but not in the family section.

If "a" and "b" adopt  "c" and then mark it as exclude from report, the result is:

a&b family

They have an adopted son named c.  They have no children yet.

I use Windows XP SP2 with Microsoft Word and Dreamweaver V8.

Please note that the change occurred going from V2b19e to V2b19f.

I saved the original Dictionary.xml in Word. Exited Word and then relaunched it with the new Dictionary.xml and could not find the (r) and causes errors in the report.

I did the same exercise with Dreamweaver and the new saved file went from 50K to 57K and of course caused errors.

I tried to send these files to you via an email in the forum, but excuse my ignorance, I could not see how to add attachments.

Please let me know how add the Dictionary.xml's as attachments.

Thanks

Please let me know how add the Dictionary.xml's as attachments.

When you create a new post, reply to an existing post or Edit one of your existing posts, you should see further down the page a 'Post Options' heading. Open this, if closed, and you will see an 'Attachments' subheading with a list of permitted types.

Also an 'Edit attachments' button. Click this and use the browse buttons to locate the files on your PC that you wish to attach.

Then click the 'Upload attachments' button and finally close the 'Insert attachments' window. You should then find that the files appear as attachments to your post.

I tried the PSPad editor. Looks like a nice editor. Works with Dictionary.xml.

Ron

Thank you for your instructions. I have a correction to my earlier posts.

When I found that Dreamweaver corrupts the Dictionary.xml I thought I would try a simpler program- Word. It also corrupted the file. So I thought that both Dreamweaver and Word worked with V2b19e and don't with V2b19f. This is incorrect because I just tried Word with V2b19e and corrupts the file just like V2b19f. Dreamweaver works with V2b19e.

Sorry about the confusion. I have uploaded the attachments. They show on the bottom section under attachments. I hope they will show in the post.

Thanks

Frank1

I have compared your Dictionary files but can see no pattern to the corruptions. Word appears to randomly change single characters that Notepad/WinMerge then show as ?. If this happened to my files I'd check for viruses. If not it looks like a bug in Word.

Dreamweaver mysteriously substitutes tag names and duplicates lines elsewhere. I see from a Google search that Dreamweaver has had problems in the past with corruption of xml files. Are you using the latest version?
