There are a few suggestions which would be helpful.

Under "Religious Record" on GenoPro2007 we are only able to record one event.  Most religions have several milestones that should be recorded.  For example in the Roman Catholic Church a person is christened/baptised, has 1st communion, gets confirmed, and for some who choose to they may become ordained a priest or become a nun.  All of these belong under "Religious Records"  Perhaps if that catagory was similar to the education section where multiple religious events can be recorded.

A bit problem I am encountering is recording dates - as I'm sure most of you all know, until the 1800's in parts of the world (mainly Europe) all counties were not on the same calendar.  Therefor dates are often listed as: 1/15/1652/3.  The year was 1652 on one calendar but was 1653 on the other.  It would be awesome for me to have an option of recording both formats.

Finally, a section allowing one to record the titles and honours held by an ancestor.  I'm decended from may of the Royal and Noble families of Europe.  People were born with one title, created another, inherited others, and yet more were gained through marriage.  A section allowing me to record each title and the date they acquired the new title. This is incredibly helpful in researching a person because once a title was inherited by a person who held a higher title the lower ranking title would go into abayance (disuse until it was no longer the lower ranking title).  For example, the title Baron Rich of Leez eventually fell to the Earls of Warwick who would not have used the title because their own was higher.  Though each time it passed to another it would still grow in its ordinal number...in the end the last person to hold the title was the 9th Baron Rich of Leez who died without an heir making that title and another revert to the crown but allowing other titles they held pass to other distand heirs.

Thanks for allowing my input.

We have plans to include events in future releases of GenoPro.

I am having difficulty understanding your second suggestion about the calendar. GenoPro already have a build-in mechanism to enter a date in multiple calendar. [Right click on a any date field]. Your suggestion is to add both date in the same field without specifying what calendar is used? I would be happy to learn more about those calendar.

I've already published a page to convert date from one calendar to anotheris your calendar listed?.

This problem is very wellknown, because the Sowjet "October" Revolution which happened on ... Nov.7,1917.Tongue:

With respect to the Hebrew aspect of the question, there's not supposed to be any problem, because most of the documents are in Hebrew (incl.Hebrew dates) - therefore the international dates are only translated, so that the current type of Chr.dates is supposed to be enough. The only people who could be affected is the Russian Jewry (and among them, only those who have exact and complete dates before 1922). They're only a few ...

wow - I'm incredibly embarrassed that I was so totally unaware of the option to right click.  That certainly is a great feature.  I suppose what I was inquiring about, which now I realize is probably overkill, would be to have for example a little text box after the date box as it appears which would allow to add a 1-2 characters to include dates in both the Julian and Georgian calendar formats.   However, if I'm not bright enough to be able to know that if I see the same month and date listed with only a year difference that its likely due to the use of different calendars then I clearly should just give up! lol.  As a later post said, the only date that matters is how it would be written today.  At any rate, the comments box is perfect for tidbits of information like this which doesn't even pop up frequently.

I do thank you for your feedback on the other features being in development/condiseration.

Best,

J

One of the gotchas at present is that GenoPro can only use one calendar at a time, so you can select a different calendar, but it applies to all entries.
This means that, in the Uk, a child who was born on 2 Sep 1752 but died the next day would have a date of death of 14 Sep 1752 in the records.

Not sure how this can be treated

I agree with the message-poster that there is a problem with pre-1752 dates in that the year started on 25th March ("Lady Day") so a birth date of 20th February 1705 would actually be in 1706 - it is very easy to get confused and the standard way of dealing with this is to say 20 Feb 1705/6 - then there is no confusion as to whether the correction has been made. The Right-click 'Julian' option does not change the year, it changes the number of days by 9 to reflect the Julian calendar. This is a tricky issue because different countries have handled dates differently - however, allowing dates to be entered using the 1705/6 convention to be entered would be very helpful.

The other problem not yet addressed in this most excellent program is that you can only enter dates of birth & death for display, not baptism or burial. It is far easier to find out an ancestral baptism - from, say parish registers - than to find the exact date of birth. The dates of baptism & birth may be widely separated, even though they are frequently only days apart. One of my ancestral families baptised all their 12 children on the same day - & this is the only information I have on their birthdates. It would be very helpful to be able to input dates of baptism & burial on the 'General' tab and flag which of the dates you want displayed.

These suggestions apart, thank you very much for all the hard work which has gone into making GenoPro such a great program.
