At the moment, after testing with Firefox and MSIE 7, the cohab of a Place with Pict(s) and Google Map is a bit peculiar, i.e. it doesn't properly display and looks messy.
Sorry if my PNG screenshots looks a bit blurr. It's because I reduced them to 85%.
a - With IE, I got this:
b - with FF, I got that:

I suggest the following modif. I'll use the abbrev LP for the Left Pane, RP for the Right Pane and PP for the Popup Pane:
1) when a place is clicked from the main place index in the LP, the place, as now, comes up in the RP. If you click on the place name in the RP, the PP opens with the same data:

I don't think this display/screen is very nice. I propose to remove the link on the RP place name and to add up a "View Google Map" link. Clicking on the link will bring up the map (only the map, the place name and the close icon) in the PP. The map size could even be increased upto the red border/viewport shown:

2) when a place is clicked from an Ind or a Fam page, it is a bit different. The place pops up in the PP. I also propose to add up a Google Map link:

after clicking the Map link, I propose the map to pop up in the same PP, replacing the place Narrative and Pict(S). A "Back" icon, as shown, could eventually be provided in order to go back to the previous Place Narr and Pict:

As a alternative to 2) above, the Place (birth, death, edu, ...) when clicked from an Ind/Fam RP page could open up in the RP, replacing the Ind/Fam page. Then the Map link will open the map in the PP. This will then be identical to 1) above. To go back to the Ind/Fam page, the Ind/Fam name will have to be re-clicked from the LP or with the help of a "Back" icon in the RP.
Care should also be taken, when clicking on a place name invoked from a source, a reference, etc, in order to keep the same choosen display process.
Up to you to implement but I think the display is neater that way. It may also ease Ron's job with these browser different behaviours.
Thank you.
