In the longer term I suggest GenoPro needs to review its handling of 'multimedia' items. I would much prefer to see the ' Picture' element enhanced to handle media items other than static images and be renamed as 'MediaObject'. Then we would not need to use a somewhat obscure mechanism of the the Source URL tag to include movies, Flash files, pdf files etc. I agree. GenoPro 2007 was rushed out and it is time to classify file attachments, such as pictures, sound, video clip, spreadsheets, documents, and so on. The architecture was designed for various file attachments, however the code was never written. Also, two JPGE images may have different meaning, such as a wedding photo or a scan of a marriage certificate. Organizing those multimedia itmes is not a trivial task.

I agree the plain link is not exactly instructive or helpful for a vistor. But I would choose different text. Perhaps 'Please click here to view additional material linked to this source' as I feel with 'To view this file please click here' there is no context for 'this file'. Of course the actual phrase will be in the dictionary therefore users will be able to make their own choice. Adding an icon would also give the knowledgeable visitor a visual clue as to form of the material. I will add these changes to the 'to do' list (maybe 2.0.0.3)There also needs to be a way of indicating how the URL should be displayed. By default it will replace the page from which it is linked. So if for example it is clicked from the sources.htm pane, it will replace the detail pane, whereas if clicked from a single source entry in the popup pane, then it will replace that pane. To this end I propose to change the script to allow query strings following the URL (prefixed with ?). the following will be recognised: target='popup' or target='detail' or target='_blank', width='xpx' height='ypx'
e.g. http://www.mywebsite.com/somepage.htm?target='_blank'&width='800px'&height='400px' In the longer term I suggest GenoPro needs to review its handling of 'multimedia' items. Since the file name under URL has not much meaning to the viewer, suggest to change to: To view this file, please click here. Another suggestion is to use an icon to be clicked, linked to the type of file (pdf, htm/l, djvu, doc, txt, etc.)
