Hi
I've successfully exported to gedcom file now but when opening file particularly within Genes Reunited, all my 'comments' are visible. Can I make this invisible in the options section perhaps when generating a report?

You can indeed, Just create a 'Document' Custom Tag called IncludeNotes and set it to N. see http://support.genopro.com/FindPost15950.aspx for more. Alternatively, create a Custom 'Export to Gedcom' skin and set to N in Config.xml

Hi, many thanks for the response. 'Newbie' excuse once again. I went to Post 15950 for a look as suggested. I couldn't get my head around the three custom tags there and if I had to type each of them myself as new tags. But I did anyway under 'document' tab, but then I couldn't get to where I had to do the Selection Properties. I eventually found an area for this but didn't have as many tabs in this section as you. If I went out of this section and came back to check on the tags, I had to re-enter the N N N under the selection properties.
In doing this I then went to my tree, tools, generate report, I customised display all comments under skin name and left privacy with 'remove all living individuals' ticked but with keep names checked also. The report is written but not all comments come. On one member of tree, no comments were taken from general or birth section. But in another, only the comments were taken from the birth page and not general. I'm making a real mess of it but at least if you could explain why some comments are going and others not. Even the comments under my children's adopted link did not get taken and I know they appear on the gedcom file when I export it. Kind Regards,
Duchess

I've just realised that the people I mention as not having their comments taken are 'living'. But why then when I have done a simple export to gedcom before, do the comments appear in my childrens file under the adopted link for all to see, if i have ticked to remove all living people but keep names and birth dates? These children AND deceased relatives all have their comments appearing in this case.

honeywood5 (2/10/2007) But why then when I have done a simple export to gedcom before, do the comments appear in my childrens file under the adopted link for all to see, if i have ticked to remove all living people but keep names and birth dates? These children AND deceased relatives all have their comments appearing in this case. The GenoPro 'Generate report' Privacy tab settings are an interim measure until a full privacy filter can be written. As you have found, ticking 'remove all living people' and 'keep names' will remove comments from living Individual records. However the Pedigree Link details including adoption comments are in a separate record type and are unaffected by this setting and not filtered by GenoPro before the Report is run. Hopefully this problem wil be addressed in the revised Privacy filter. However the Report Generator 'Export to Gedcom' options in the Config.xml and Custom Tags can still be used to remove ALL comments where ever they are held. I have edited by original post to try and clarify the process. Yes, you do have to create the Document Custom Tags yourself using the Tag Editor. You only need to create those Tags corresponding to the options you wish to override in the Config.xml file (see end of post for contents of this file). Once you have created these Tags they will be saved in your .gno file next and so only need to be set once. Having created the required Tags you can set the values via the Menu Item File/Properties.. and then clicking the tab corresponding to the name you gave your custom tag layout - here I suggested the name 'Export to Gedcom'. There will be extra tabs for each such layout. In the example I have a layout containing Tags for the Narrative Report, hence the extra tab. Once you have set the tag values, click OK and the values should be saved. I do not understand why yours disappeared. I hope this makes it a little clearer.

Dear Ron, I'm so sorry I can't make this work. I now am at the point where what I screen dump here, produces all my living with no comments (ok) but all deceased with comments! - hang on, why can I not attach a screen dump here now?

Sorry to hear you are still having problems Duchess. Don't know why you are cannot post a screen shot. I know that this forum doesn't allow you to use Firefox, only IE. If you try to use Firefox it insists on a URL reference rather than allowing you to upload a local file. So much for browser compatibility. If you don't mind sending me you .gno I'll look at your settings to see what is going wrong. (Use The GenoPro Menu item File/Send option and type Ron as the username to send to)

Hi Ron, success! Somehow, somewhere - I don't know, but I've managed to produce the gedcom file to be visible for example on Genes Reunited and both my living and deceased relatives now have their private comments hidden. Great! Under the Tag Editor buttons i still have listed the options that i wanted turned off. (The Tag Permanent Names) So the question now is why can't I upload the same gedcom to say Ancestory.com, as it's telling me it isn't a valid gedcom file!
I was using Firefox before too, so that was the problem there.
I guess I shall still send my .gno file as requested. Just let me get out of here first. Many thanks for your assistance as always.
Rgds

Duchess Had you noticed that on the GenesReunited site it is possible to have a tree that does not display living people? It is not well advertised - I noticed a small note about it somewhere on the site. You need to go to your Account Details page and the last line of 'personal details' allows you to 'Hide living relations'
Disadvantage is that it is either on/off so others can not see anything, apart from a box 'Living relation'

I was using Firefox before too, so that was the problem there.Googling the Ancestry upload problem it seems a number of people have had problems using Firefox, but also others with IE. I guess IE is worth a try, but may Ancestry is a bit touchy, sometimes it works, sometimes it sulks, so try again. I looked at the .gno you sent before seeing your post, and of course found no problem! Just to let you know I have now deleted it. GenoPro doesn't seem to have a way of deleting Document Custom Tags without manually editing an XML export. There are three things to look at. You can delete an instance of a Tag by setting its value to null/blank. You can remove it from a Tag Layout definition using the Tag Editor, but I see no way of deleting the Custom Tag definition itself. for example it still appears in the drop down list when adding a new Custom Tag. You can rename Custom Tags with the Tag Editor back to the original custom_tag1,2, etc. by changing the name with the Tag Editor. All other Custom Tags can be removed completely using the Table View and right clicking on the column and choosing the delete tag option. But of course Document Custom Tags have no Table View.
