I would like to see the option of having dotted or dashed lines for vertical relationships such as a parent-child relationship, where you can indicate that the relationship is uncertain. For instance, a dotted line option connecting a parent with a child whom you are not certain was actually a child or whether it may have been a cousin or other relative.

Often in research I find that individuals living in someone's house might be regarded as "children" of the family head (as indicated in some censuses) when in fact they were really cousins with the same surname. Before the truth can be sorted out, it would be good to be able to signify that a parent-child relationship is not a certainty by dotted or dashed line.

A visual indicator like that would help physically see within a genomap which relationships need further proof or research. Thanks!

Right click on the child's link to it's parants' marriage line, select Properties and you will see Pedigree link with the options Adopted child and Foster child which have different dotted lines. You can also change the color of the line.

You can also add a comment to the pedigree link, which can be shown when the cursor is over the line - provided the tool tips are enabled

Yes, this is a good option visually, but when a report is printed, it appears that the child is either adopted or foster. I would like to see the option added of a child as "uncertain or unconfirmed relationship."

Another option is to create a Custom Tag. Use the Tag Editor and open the Pedigree Link Tab and rename an existing tag in the lower panel. Relevant information can then be entered.

Problem is getting this into a report.

What is needed is either a fifth pedigree link or the option to mark one of the existing links as unconfirmed.

This is part of the difference between family historian and a genealogist. In the latter case the emphasis is on facts; either you are genetically related or you are not. Adoption has been added to include legal/emotional relations but the unconfirmed is a different problem

That is a brillant suggestion, perhaps Unconfirmed Child.

'Unconfirmed child' would be a big help but would also have knock on effect in the Report Generator.

The image below shows how I set out a possible link using data from different sources, here the IGI and the UK 1851 census. I am reasonably sure that John Shambrook of the census is John Shambrooke from the IGI abstract of the Parish Register. I use the vertical dimension to indicate the date and an Emotional line to point up the link. This apparent link does not appear in the text of a Report, only apparent in the graphics.

One problem that would occur if the two Johns were united as 'unconfirmed child' is that this would amalgamate the related data from the different sources. I suppose that this would have to be addressed when entering the data and making sure that each fact was correctly related to te Source. Possibly the use of events would help here

Should have asked earlier. Is this a possible extension to 2.0.0.5 or an option for the next Beta?

Next version.  I cannot add new items to enumerations to honor compatibility.

Yes, exactly! You summed up precisely what I was saying. I am a genealogist more than family historian so I am leaning more toward factual representations of family. In fact, I applaud your design of emotional relationships in the chart, but I don't really use them. It goes to show you that your program is very versatile for a wide variety of different users. Nice work! Smile
