I have produced 16 family trees in Genopro for display in large charts on the walls at a reiunion in May.I want to give family members a CD of these trees so they can view them on their own computers. They may not have a genealogy program on their computers. How can I organise it that the CDs will work, without them having to download a software program?

Hi If you want to give the maps only and do not require to give entire database, use the export facility in Genopro and you could export each of the family trees as Meta Files.
Using Irfanview, you could convert them to your favorite Graphics file(s)
It worked for me = but all 16 of the maps can take less than 1 MB.
Good Luck

How can I organise it that the CDs will work, without them having to download a software program? You can copy the file InstallGenoPro.exe on the CD. This file is less than 1 MB and is easy to install. This way, any user not having an internet connection will be able to open your .gno documents (family trees) and view everything, including the pictures.

If you use the Install program then people can generate their own complete installation but might be confused by the initial screens. (these can be ignored but people might think they can not use the program)
I think you only need GenoPro.exe (from the GenoPro2007 directory) on the Cd where it will work as a viewer. However the advantage of an installation is that the .gno files are associated with GenoPro

appleshaw (3/18/2007) I think you only need GenoPro.exe (from the GenoPro2007 directory) on the Cd where it will work as a viewer.Yes indeed. Everything is in GenoPro.exe, including the reports. However the advantage of an installation is that the .gno files are associated with GenoPro The file association is done when GenoPro.exe is launched. The installation creates a shortcut in the Start menu, plus optionally a shortcut on the desktop. Also, the installation creates an entry in the control panel for uninstalling the product. The installation also includes a few sample files.

Sorry. Still having problems. I downloaded Install Genopro.exe, sent it across to the CD along with the various trees. My brother is trying unsuccessfully to view them on his laptop - he gets a message saying Which program do you want to use to open... He goes to the Install program icon then and it keeps telling him to register - he clicks no and it gets into a loop he can't get out of... Help please????

Your brother needs to double-click on the file InstallGenoPro.exe before doing anything. GenoPro will install on any PC.

I suggest that you could use Autorun feature in your CD distribution.
[autorun] open=InstallGenopro.exe
|
More Help can be had from http://www.phdcc.com/shellrun/autorun.htm |
You can even make the program check whether GenoPro is already installed in the PC and then open your data automatically.
You can use Notepad for editing the autorun file. All the best.
