I can't find any documentation about the drop-down functionality and when it works or does not work and what fields it applies to.

Most fields can have a drop down list, but there are two types; either set in the program or your own list. An exmple of a pre-defined list is on the Union tab of Family properties where the Officiator Title has to be chosen from an existing list. The subsequent fields contain data that you have entered and if you have used these fields previously then you are offered a list which you can select from - or ignore and add your own new data.
Not sure if this is documented - have used a suck it & see approach.
Some lists, such as Title on the first menu, are a combination in that there is a pre-existing list which you can add to

  • If you can't type the value in the field it's considered as an enumeration:
for instance: blood type, ceremony type, officiator title, cause of death, industry sector, work type, occupancy type, source media type...
You have to pick a value from the list.
  • If you have list but you can also type the value, those are considered as suggestion only. Feel free to type your own value:
for instance: name title, name suffix, education level, education year...

  • Other drop down are build from your list of reusable object such as places and sources.

  • All other text fields a free text, many of them offer "intellisense", those are suggestion based on your data. This is useful to avoid retyping the same information, a good example is the family name... As you type the list display the possible values and the number of occurrence in the document. This doesn't prevent you from typeing a value not listed.

Hello
I've managed, while editing "source" -field values, to enter false values, unintentionally of course.
Now,let's say, when I enter a new value into the "source" -field those falsely entered (by me) values are unnecessarily displeyed/proposed and of course sometimes, silly me, I select a wrong value from a drop-down list?
This is not a major issue, because I can easily change the value in this particular field into the correct one.
Any case it would be nice if there were a possibility to wipe away those falsely entered values to keep them away from my eyes Smile .

From my tests it appears that simply saving the file will remove any non-existent values from drop down list. The list gets refreshed with values actually saved.
