Hello!

Thank you for the suggestion - it works.

Let me ask you more precise question:

Is it possible to do it like FAMILY (10)  instead of FAMILI/FAMILIE (10) with NameDictionary or somehow else?

It is more appropriate to show for example "Johnsons (10)" instead of Johnson/Jonson/Joenson(10). It's better to define the Family name for the whole family to be able to save original spelling of the name in the report but to count and operate with whole family with one Family name.

Is it possible to define somehow (for example by usage of the existing field or by creation of the new one) the "Family" name for whole branch to avoid the abovementioned problem?

Thank you.

I haven't started messing around with the HTML files, but I've also run into this problem due to the masculine and feminine version of Greek surnames.

What I do is use the same name for everyone, but type it as: FAMILI[E] or FAMILI[-E], that way I don't accidentally call a man by a feminine surname and there's only one name for me to pick from the drop down list.

I might do a complete find and replace once I feel more confident with HTML, but until then, this works for me.

You can define a 'base' or 'root' name for each alternative name in the NameDictionary.xml. For example if your NameDictionary.xml contains  the line
<N EN="FAMILIE" EN_B="FAMILI" />
Then FAMILI & FAMILIE will be treated as the same name and be shown as FAMILI/FAMILIE in the name index and home page summary.

See also notes in the skeleton NameDictionary.xml provided in the Narrative skin. You can amend Report config parameters to specify another location for your NameDictionary.xml file. Change 'EN' to your language code when running a Narratgive Report for another language.

The same technique can be useful when you have different spellings of the same last name. e.g.  Jonson, Johnson, Johnstone etc.

Hello!

In other (than English) languages there is situation when some Family names have different terminations of the Family names for male and female and some are equal for male and for female.

At the homepage of the Report it counted just by entered names without taking to consideration of such differences. So Family with equal for M & F Family name is on top of the list and other Families are down because divided by M and F.

e.g. - Family name is FAMILY for both M &F and there is 6 men and 4 women = homepage is FAMILY (10)

- Family name are: for M - FAMILI = homepage FAMILI (6)

                          for F - FAMILIE = homepage FAMILIE (4)

Is it possible somehow to count them together?

Thanks
