What is the temporality of it ? Any foreseen release date for the server version ?

in the case of psychiatric institution, will there be a possibility for the facility to indicate it's own web server, imposing it on install, in order to force all patients data on a secured in house server ?

Absolutely.  We have had many requests from corporate customers wishing to purchase the server software to have better control on the data.  As a result, we designed our collaboration system to run on other servers.  Since most users don't have the expertise to install and maintain a web server, we are running our collaboration module on our server GenoPro.com, similar as the built-in service for publishing reports to http://FamilyTrees.GenoPro.com.  Also, by running the collaboration software on GenoPro.com, we will be in a better position to get better feedback for improving quality and performance.

By the way, our collaboration protocol always use 128-bit SSL encryption to transfer data with the server.

The collaboration module is designed to be "transparent" and as easy as a "Save As".
  • First you create a new project for a document (family tree or genogram).
  • GenoPro always saves a copy of your document on the local disk as backup and also in case the network is no longer available.
  • After modifications, you save just as usual, your changes are sent to the server where they are merged with the "master" document.
  • Changes from other users (if any) are automatically downloaded and merged with your local version.
  • If you don't have access to the internet, GenoPro will remember your changes until you re-connect (synchronize) with the project.
  • You can invite others to join your project.  Invitations are done by typing the email address and/or username and specify the access permission such as view the document and/or modify the document.

All changes are logged, who did what and when. Rollback will be available in case of an error or malicious collaborators.

We expect many users to benefit from this feature, including a single user creating a family on multiple computers.  For instance, you may work alone however you may work from home, your office and bring your family tree on your notebook.  The collaboration module will be perfect to handle such task.

Today we were planning to release our last update for GenoPro 2007, however there are still have a few more hours of things to complete.  This update includes many fixes and a Phrase Editor for assisting people translating/localizing a report or GenoPro's graphical user interface.

We have been working on a true collaboration module, where multiple individuals can join and share genealogy projects over the web.  The collaboration module includes security, modification history and rollback.  8,000 lines of C++ code have been added since the last update.  To compare this, the first release of GenoPro had 14,500 lines of code.

Yes, I would like to support your curiosity. I had suggested in an earlier post (22/10) that perhaps a proposed development list could be published (I did not get a reaction!).

I am sure there are a lot of users who eagerly await each update who would love to know what to expect.
