What tools are available to display on the family map triangulated relationships between family members?

Drawing triangles is a bit difficult using GenoPro 2007.  At the moment, you create a close figure and transform it to a triangle moving the handles.  The other alternative is create an arrow (press the keyboard key A) and transform the arrow into a triangle.

I tried the alternative approach and it can be done.  Now, is there any way to highlight the enclosed space of the triangle?

Yes, when you have a closed figure, you can specify a fill color.  Just double-click on the edge of the triangle and you will be able to pkck the color to fill in the triangle.

I have not utilized gen pro in a couple years and it died with an expired computer.  I have an old file stored on a disk.  If I download the 2011 version on computer w/Windows 7, will I be able to open old file?

Short answer is yes. Your registration key is still valid and the new program will either open the file or give instructions on how to do so.
If it was created on a much earlier version you first need to obtain that program from the archive and then export as .xml which the latest version will then use
