How can I persuade Vista to associate all my genopro files with my genopro program so that, instead of opening genopro every time, I can simply double click on a file and it will open as it used to on my trusty ole Windows 2000ME? I have tried the obvious - going to the Vista wizard and clicking on the gno file extension and clicking change program and when Genopro is not on the list, browsing and then choosing it and............... nothing happens - it does not appear on the list of "recommended" or "other" programmes - just the usual MS Word, Nero, WMP etc. Not a big problem but it annoys me that the most important files on my computer seem to be regarded as second class citizens by my computer. I resent that! Who's the boss here?!

GenoPro's installation should take care of this automatically. Make sure you have Administrator's privileges when you install GenoPro. If you install GenoPro under a limited-access user account, GenoPro's file association may be ignored.

I have already downloaded Vista Service Pack 1 and it has made no difference.Furthermore, I also now notice that I can no longer use GenoPro, as opposed to SVG, to open the tree in my browser on the website. A window pops up warning of "an incorrect file type", and I can see the dreaded MS Word icon which has attached itself to my GP files. I did browse quite a few tech sites and see that as you suggest, Vista is having all sorts of file association problems, some much worse than mine where files will not open at all so maybe I should consider myself lucky. There is even a new piece of software which will release captured file types for a lot of major extensions such as jpg and doc but needless to say, not gno.

I personally do not have Vista since I prefer the stability and performance of XP, but if you discover a solution, please share it with us. You are probably not alone with the .gno file association problem.

I use Vista Business and have no file association issues, hence it is difficult to make suggestions here. However here is a picture of my associations found under ...control panel....default programs...set associations
Hope you find a solution soon.
