The same for the first and last name of a person the polish Administration stated Mateusz Gabryś and the german Mattheus Gabrisch. The question of name change has been raised previously as part of a discussion on gender change - see http://support.genopro.com/FindPost15094.aspx. If you read the post you will see that it is possible to record the different names for the same person using hyperlinks in such a way that the report records both names to a single individual. However, it is not a perfect solution. Here is a quick representation (which could be embellished to show the link between the hyperinked 'individuals'):

Coming from Hungary, this is a problem I often encounter as well. Many of the my ancestors were born in cities/towns which are not in present day Hungary.
What I decided to do is to refer to the name of the city/town as it was known when my ancestor lived there. For example, my grandfather was born in Nagyszeben in what was then Hungary, which today is the city of Sibiu in Romania. It didn't seem appropriate to refer to it by its Romanian name as this would have implied that he was of Romanian descent (he certainly would not have called it by its Romanian name!).
The name of the country each place was located in is also a problem. Once again, it would be historically inaccurate to record one of my ancestors as having been born, for example, in Slovakia when that country didn't even exist at the time. Therefore, I refer to the country as it was called at the time and make a reference to its present name in the Comments area.

My suggestion would be to use hierarchical places. E.g. create a 'parent' place say Karp/Karf with two 'child' places Karp and Karf. Link events such as births, deaths etc. to the appropriate 'child' place. use place comments to state when and why the place name changed. otherwise you could always use a custom tag for the alternative name.

due to the fact that the cities near the border changed their names after every war i have a lot of documents that refer the same place with different names. For examples polish Karp and german Karf or german Beuthen and polish Bytom. I would like to add alternativ Name for the same city. The same for the first and last name of a person the polish Administration stated Mateusz Gabryś and the german Mattheus Gabrisch.
