If you use the same identical source more than once (for example - 2 times), it's no more compressed inside the SOURCES LIST, but appears 2 times (in 2 separate line). NEW CONCLUSION: This bug doesn't depend on the (last) version ! If you put a specific "picture" under a specific "source", and then, you write that source also as the source of the picture, you have the ... BUG !

The sources are not exactly the same, they have different pictures.<SourcesAndCitations> <SourceCitation ID="source00001"> <Pictures Primary="pic00001">pic00001</Pictures> <Title>src</Title> </SourceCitation> <SourceCitation ID="source00002"> <Pictures Primary="pic00002">pic00002</Pictures> <Title>src</Title> </SourceCitation> |
If both sources have the same title and the same content, including pictures, they will be merged/consolidated.

GenoProSupport (9/23/2008) The sources are not exactly the same, they have different pictures.DIFFERENT INDEED ??????? (We're dealing - in fact - with one single existent picture; check please the file name and location under each source, and you'll see that there's only one picture in use) In my attached example (GNO file) I do use only ONE picture, ... but every time I use - once again - an already existent source (with a picture in it), a new (separate) source line is added Thanks again, Alfi

The sources are NOT identical according to GenoPro. In your file you have two source (source00001 and source00002, each having to a different picture (pic00001, pic00002), and pic00001 referring to source00001 and pic00002 referring to source00002. There is no way GenoPro can conclude two pictures are the same because there is a reference to source00001 and a reference to source00002. Likewise, GenoPro cannot condlude the two sources are identical because each has a reference to a different picture, pic00001 and pic00002 respectively.<Picture ID="pic00001"> <Name>0d SOURCE MET p016</Name> <Source>source00001</Source> </Picture> <Picture ID="pic00002"> <Name>0d SOURCE MET p016</Name> <Source>source00002</Source> </Picture> </Pictures> <SourcesAndCitations> <SourceCitation ID="source00001"> <Pictures Primary="pic00001">pic00001</Pictures> <Title>src</Title> </SourceCitation> <SourceCitation ID="source00002"> <Pictures Primary="pic00002">pic00002</Pictures> <Title>src</Title> </SourceCitation> </SourcesAndCitations> |
What you have to do is consolidate the pictures or the sources. In the Table Layout, select both sources, right-click and select Consolidate Sources and Citations.

Dear Danny,What you have to do is consolidate the pictures or the sources. In the Table Layout, select both sources, right-click and select Consolidate Sources and Citations. How can you select a specific number (>1, but NOT ALL) of sources in the Table Layout ?????

Hello,The "consolidation" process as you've recommended DOES work, but ... the BUG does still appear in new cases. In spite of the fact that I cannot exactly define/describe the BUG , I think I may know what causes it: 1) Define the source "A-SRC" under a specific person and exit. 2) Define a new person with the same source somewhere. 3) Enter the "A-SRC" under any person in the tree, and update it via EDIT SOURCE. 3a) The update should include a picture "A-PIC" added inside "A-SRC", and there, fill in the "source" field with the value "A-SRC". 4) You've just received a source A-SRC pointing at a picture A-PIC with its source A-SRC. 4a) In fact you just have a case with a source whose source is it itself. (=LOGICAL LOOP) 5) From now on, any time you use that source, it's added again (as a new one) to the list of sources.

Maybe, you would start the solution of the problem, by not allowing a specific source being used as a sub-source of itself. For example, the value A-SRC shouldn't be allowed to be used as the source of any picture under A-SRC. The entire problem has started since the sofistication of the SOURCES sub-folder by adding its own photos, a.s.o.
