i try to open my gedcom files (family tree`s saved to files), i get a message saying my p.c. does

According to this forum you are now using the original v.1 of GenoPro. Suggest you download the current version 2.0.1.6 from the links on this forum. This should sort you out

It is not clear whether you are trying to open gedcom (.ged) files or GenoPro (.gno) files. GenoPro will not open gedcom files directly - they must be imported via the File>Import Files... menu
