I would love to be able to create my own templates for name display in the family tree. For example, I am currently building a complete family tree of all of the royal families of Europe (yes, I know it's going to be huge) and I'm using the Alternative Names field to show the kingdom or other realm where the ruler held power. However, I can't get the display format I want for the names, and I don't want to manually enter it for each individual. I would like it to show (for example) "King Richard III of England" ("King" is from the Title field, "Richard" is from the First Name field, the Middle Name and Family Name fields are blank, and "of England" is from the Alternative Names field). However, the closest to that I can get using the options available is "King Richard {=III} of England"... and to be honest, I don't even understand why the curly braces and equals sign would be in there in the first place, unless that's a standard naming convention I'm not familiar with. If necessary, I can edit them all manually, but that seems to be unnecessarily time-consuming. Apart from this issue, I'm still loving this program; even more now that I have started to make use of a few more of its features, such as the borders and backgrounds for individuals. : Thanks to anyone who can suggest a workaround for this, and thanks to GenoPro for the great software!

I guess, that you added the 'III' to the suffix field. This is why you have the brackets around (for possible definitions see the Display tab in the Individual properties, see bottom left fields).
The format you have selected is most probably the Title First *Nick* Last (Last2) {=Suffix} Alternative or Title First Middle *Nick* Last (Last2) {=Suffix} Alternative.
What you can play is to find out where to put the elements to get the display name you wish - I have a feeling, that the predefined formats cannot be changed only by individual.
An alternative can be to put the III either in the middle or last name position and for Display Name select Title First Middle *Nick* Last (Last2) Alternative from the list.
To change the display format for more individuals at the same time you can select all you wish to change and on the Display tab you can change the Display Name format for all selected.

Probably the simplest way would be to enter 'Richard III' as First name - why not? this will give you your display. Alternatively you can edit the Display name directly and change it from 'King Richard of England' to King Richard III of England'.

My two penn'orth:Title=King, First Name=Richard, Second Last Name=III, suffix=of England would be able to yield: King Richard III of England or Title=King, First Name=Richard, Last Name=III, Second Last Name=York (or House of York), suffix=of England would yield: King Richard III (House of York) of England You can move all items from one field to another using Copy Column and Paste in Table View.

Thanks for all the instant feedback! I lost track of this thread in the chaos of research (yes, I know, research should never be chaotic, but it's so much more fun that way ), and in the meantime found a workaround... I simply used the full-length format with the {=} around the ordinal suffix, and manually removed them. I may go back and change them where appropriate, as I like nearly all of your proposed solutions more than what I ended up doing. Thanks Again!
