Hello Ron
Thanks for your patience and good instructions! Worked gracefully (as you said) and well after copying previous version Dictionary.xml to the newest Narrative_2.0.1.6_(rev.2010.02.24) and informed clearly, in log file, of two missing lines. BR, Jarmo

Jarmo (10/6/2010)"...From revision 2.0.1.7RC9 a feature has been added that will assist users wanting non-English translations of the report. How this works in practice? Is it "cut and paste" from old, eg. from version "Narrative Report 2.0.1.7RC7 / Dictionary.xml" to the "Narrative_2.0.1.6_(rev.2010.02.24) / Dictionary.xml " or is it something else,
It is not 'cut & paste' exactly. It is as per my description, simply download the latest English skin and then replace Dictionary.xml file with your earlier non-English version e.g. your Finnish Dictionary.xml. i.e. just 'drop' it into the skin folder. Any Dictionary changes should be reported in the message log when generating a report, and English text shown for missing entries. This will help you make any changes required to your own Dictionary.

Hi Ron
You have written in Narrative Report description:
"...From revision 2.0.1.7RC9 a feature has been added that will assist users wanting non-English translations of the report. This should enable those users to take advantage of new features more easily. It has some 'backwards compatibility' so that Dictionary.xml translations from earlier releases can be dropped into a customised skin based on this release and run without error..."
How this works in practice? Is it "cut and paste" from old, eg. from version "Narrative Report 2.0.1.7RC7 / Dictionary.xml" to the "Narrative_2.0.1.6_(rev.2010.02.24) / Dictionary.xml " or is it something else, possibly some setting (haven't found one) when creating Narrative report? BR, Jarmo

Hi Ron Your advise was very good, again! I downloaded with Mozilla Firefox instead of MS IE and downloading succeeded as well as unzipping with 7-Zip. Thanks! BR, Jarmo

Do you have any ideas how could I try to continue? Try a different browser.

Hello Ron
You said that, "The only problem with downloading skins I am aware of is that a you must be logged into the forum with a proper user id, not as a guest and not with the 'numbers only' user id allocated by GenoPro."
Well I re-logged (with my userid/password. I don't understand what "numbers only" mean) but still I get "not a valid archive" message in Winzip? I used also another program, "7zip", no success. Do you have any ideas how could I try to continue? BR, Jarmo

I believe I have a solution for you to the problem of adding updated skins to the 'frozen' 2.0.1.6.
First add the skins to a temporary copy the latest version 2.5.x.x and compile/build the new .exe Then use a Resource editor to save the skin resource from this version into a file and use the resource editor again to replace the skin in the 2.0.1.6 .exe with the one in the saved file. I have just successfully moved a skin from 2.5.0.5 to 2.0.1.6 using the resource editor I found hereI can not use this directly myself to add new ones as I do not have access to the mechanism used to pack the skins into the resource.

Thanks for that full explanation Dan, it is much clerer to me now.
I have a development version of the Narrative Report skin that may help alleviate matters eventually. It already handles the additional sizes in Gamma and most of the other new features (e.g. households, secrets, outlined text, pictures on the genomap). This will be compatible with both 2.0.1.6 and 2.5.x.x. Hopefully there will be a way to release this in the 2.0.1.6 executeable (as a binary patch perhaps) without the need to recompile.
It also uses Google Maps API v3, removing the requirement for an API key.
The major issue at present is getting SVG pan and zoom to work correctly with all the major browsers . Once I can resolve this issue I will release it.

Ron (10/1/2010)
Unfortunately as yet GenoPro Inc. have not incorporated the revised skin in GenoPro itself despite several requests. Hence the many posts on this forum with problems such as yours.
Let me explain why the new skins are not incorporated into the latest version of GenoPro. The problem is I am unable to rebuild GenoPro 2.0.1.6. I do have full backups of the C++ code, however other things (such as toolbar icons, graphics, documents) are incrementally backed up, and the order of icons in the toolbars have changed many times. In December 2007, I released my first demo of GenoPro Gamma. In my configuration file, I was using #define CONFIG_GENOPRO_GAMMA and used #ifdef CONFIG_GENOPRO_GAMMA to distinguish the new code for GenoPro Gamma, so I can exclude it if I need to recompile GenoPro 2007. The following versions of GenoPro have been released between GenoPro 2007 2.0.1.2 and 2.0.1.6: 17-Nov-2007 2.0.1.2 Improvements to the phrase editor16-Dec-2007 2.0.1.3 Fixed a printing issue 16-Jan-2008 2.0.1.4 Out of sync: Translation of GenoPro 08-Apr-2008 2.0.1.5 Out of sync: new localized languages and improvements to the report generator14-Sep-2008 2.0.1.6 Out of sync: improvement to the social entity. This version is the last of the GenoPro 2007 series. 13-Mar-2010 2.0.1.6(b) Recompilation of the setup program to fix a compatibility issue on Windows 7. 09-Dec-2007 2.1.0.0 Early demo of GenoPro Gamma 15-Feb-2008 2.2.0.0 New code for drawing individuals with Monica's legend07-Mar-2008 2.2.0.1 Special version for Monica McGoldrick with the horizontal and vertical lines within the gender symbol16-Apr-2008 2.3.0.0 Added ArrowStyle to the polygon/shape 20-Apr-2008 2.3.0.1 Fixed some issues with the polygon and other drawing stuff. 07-May-2008 2.0.1.5 Silent update of 2.0.1.5 - This is probably final build for GenoPro 2007 because it is very complicated to rebuild this old version. 22-May-2008 2.4.0.0 Special version for Monica McGoldrick with reference date per GenoMap 16-Jun-2008 3.g1 First "Gamma" version 16-Aug-2008 3.g2 Code for the "External Storage" to store a genogram in a third party database 14-Sep-2008 2.0.1.6 Improvement to the social entity. This version is the last of the GenoPro 2007 series. 29-Oct-2008 2.4.0.1 Build for Monica with draft dialogs
