It would be a great
help
if a background
image
could be added to the
GenoMap
. In my
genealogy
research, I often
print
out maps of localities and use pushpins to pinpoint where people lived at a given "slice" of time. This helps me better understand and analyze the
family relationships
I am researching in a given area. Imagine being able to create a new GenoMap, with say a map of Washington DC as it's background. You could then
hyperlink individuals
from your other GenoMaps and
place
people where they physically lived on that map. You could do new GenoMaps over time, say a map for 1850, 1860, etc, showing where people lived, who lived near them, etc. The hyperlink would function like my pushpins, but far more powerfully because so much
information
could be linked to that specific place in time by that particular
individual
. This feature would allow
researchers
to better analyze
family
data based on spatial context. I have tried to do something similar with Google Maps, but just like the pushpins on my paper map, I have to go back to my research to understand what that pushpin is referencing. With GenoPro you could have access to all that data in one setting. I imagine this would have uses for other types of researchers as well, where spacial data would lead to enhanced analysis of relational and emotional data. GenoPro is an amazing
visual
research tool. I have used it exclusively for over eight
years
now. I think it is leaps and bounds above other all the other
genealogy software
options
available because I can
see
families and
see
relationships between individuals. I look forward to what
developers
have in store with future versions.

This facility is already available using the primary picture of a
label
(stretch label to cover whole genomap). If you are still using GenoPro 2.0.1.6 I suggest you
download
the
latest version
(currently 2.5.3.3) from
www.genopro.com
.
The feature is presently described under version 2.5.0.3 on this page
www.genopro.com/monica
but hopefully will be moved to the main help pages soon.
