I have a problem with the family window. The husband shows that he has 3 children but his spouse shows None. I have tried to add children to spouse details without any joy, it only adds further icons  - which I don't want. Can anyone help point me in the right direction please.

The spouse is probably not linked to the family.

Try to delete the pedigree link (vertial line) between the spouse and the family line (horizontal line). Then recreate it from the spouse, right click, link as parent to the family line.

Thankyou for your reply.

I have tried as you suggest but I don't want to ' Link ' I want to rectify an omission. She is liked as wife already but isn't showing her motherhood ie her three children.

I have tried several times as you advise but it doesn't do what I want.

Perhaps I am asking too much which i doubt because the programme is great, just me, not filling in the correct information in the set up at the begining.

I have managed to create your situation by
1 Creating a father and 3 children. This automatically creates a mother.
2 Delete this mother
3 add wife to father

This then creates the situation you have with father linked to wife and children and mother linked to father but no children

If you follow Jean-Claude's advice, this will sort things.
delete existing link from mother to family line and then re-create it

Appleshaw has explained how the situation can arise. In fact what has happened is the creation of two family (marriage) lines. It is important the the superfluous family line is deleted before trying to relink the mother, otherwise the same situation can be recreated (this may be why doddst could not correct the problem when trying to relink). This can be tricky when the two family lines overlap - it is best to use Table Layout | Families and delete the extra family from there.

Howard

Thanks for amplifying my earlier comments. If doddst goes to the problem family and moves the wife beyond the children this can be shown. Click the right part of the family line and move it up/down. This will produce an effect similar to the image here. As Howard says, it is better to delete the extra family line, which will also remove the link, and then reconnect

My sincere thanks.

With your help I think that I might have resolved the problem.

My fault appears to have been that I had linked the two family trees through the spouse, i.e. through from the husband from his tree and then to the wife and liking the wife back to connect with her tree which then only showed her as a maiden daughter but did show her husband but not married and without the children.

That may seem a bit garbled but with your help I think that I might have got there.

Sincerely,

Tony Dodds
