In the contact information for an individual, I had provided a phone number.  Later (after having closed/saved the individual), I added a new contact record.  I did not provide a phone number, but the phone number of the previous record was added anyway.  This apparently happened to several of my records (I did not notice at the time).

The phone number does not appear until I close and re-open the properties for that individual.

When I try to delete the phone number, it will sometimes (not always) come back when I re-open the individual.  For example, I was able to remove the phone number successfully from 3 of the 4 records that had it erroneously.

I believe (but have not yet confirmed) that I have seen this with email addresses, as well.

Did you try to remove it in Table view?

You have those tel. numbers most probably listed in connection with a contact address(initial set up) and picked up this address also for somebody else. In this case the tel. number will stay with the address, unless you set up a new contact address(w/o tel. number). Next time if you want to use the same contact address, set up the address w/o any tel. number or homepage or e-mail. Then you can pick up this address and add all other items for that particular person.

Nope.

I intentionally share contact information among multiple records, fully expecting all information to be shared when I "Pick" a pre-existing contact record.

The problem is that the phone number duplicates among completely different contact records.

I started a brand new .gno file and repeated this issue with ease multiple times.

1. I started with a single individual and added a new contact with a phone number.
2. I added a mate and used "Pick" to choose the same contact record.  It loaded up with the phone number I entered before.  This is expected and desired behavior.
3. I opened the first individual and clicked "New" to make a new contact record with a new place.  I did not add a phone number.  I clicked "OK" to submit the changes.
4. I opened the first individual again, and now both contact records had the phone number, even though only the first did when I submitted the changes.
5. I clicked "New" to create a 3rd contact record and made one using a new place and no phone number and clicked "OK" to submit the changes.
6. I opened the first individual again, and now all three contact records have the phone number.
7. I cleared the phone number from the 2nd contact record and submitted.  Re-opening shows the phone number was cleared.
8. I cleared the phone number from the 3rd contact record and submitted.  Re-opening shows the phone number remains.
9. I opened up the contacts in "Table" view and deleted the phone number from the 3rd contact.  When I viewed the contact tab for the individual, the phone number remains.

I tried to email the sample .gno to the GenoProSupport using the "email" link under his avatar, but got a 404 stating:  "The page   /Members.aspx you have requested no longer exists on the GenoPro server."

I have uploaded the .gno to my personal site.  You can access it here:

I wonder if this will ever be addressed.  This bug is driving me crazy.  So many of my Contact records are corrupted with erroneously duplicated phone numbers that I've given up on using the field altogether.

Here's my random occasional follow-up to see if anyone is paying attention and might actually address this issue.

Hello?

Anyone???

Sorry for the delay of my reply.  This is obviously a bug.  Here is the workaround:

  1. Double click on the individual, click on the Contact tab.
  2. In the bottom table, click on every entry where is the phone number you want to delete, and delete the phone number.
  3. Click on OK (do not click on the General tab where the phone number will re-appear)

Thanks for the workaround.  I'll try to remember to apply this as I work my way through my tree and find instances of this bug.  I just have too many instances to try to track them all down specifically.  I look forward to a fix for this issue.
