I would like to get rid of my boxes with evidence data consisting of paper mails, personal notes, drawings, newspaper clippings, tomb pictures, birth and deadth announcements etc., and at the same time save time when looking for the documents that were used to capture genealogy data.

The idea would be to scan or copy all documents and to store them as separate files on the PC, probably in a folder next to the one with pictures I'm using in the reports right now.

The difference with report pictures is that these would be "for my eyes only" so that when needing to check some data about e.g., an individual I would be the only one able to visualise the source document(s).  They would NOT be referenced in the report.

I read thru the discussion about "Recommendations for source citations & source repositories" (http://support.genopro.com/FindPost10027.aspx) but what I'm looking for is not related to the Report Generator, it would probably be GenoPro only.

Right now I'm storing the documents in separate files named "Evidence00001", "Evidence00002", ... and keeping one or more references in the <comments> field of the <sources> tab (hoping this is a private field), but a "click-and-see" option would be appreciated.

After a few tests it appears that the <comments> show up as soon as the reference is filled in.

Bad luck.  I'm reverting back to my separate worksheet with individuals and evidences.

You can exclude comments from the report by prefixing the text/reference with the directive <?hide?> Alternatively a special character can be defined in the Dictionary.xml <Private> tag e.g. the section sign § (Alt + 0167 (numeric pad). Then this character can be used to prefix private text.

I had hoped that to provide direct links to your electronic copies of your documents you could create a child source (EVIDENCEnnnnn) below your main source for each document. This source can have a 'Source File or URL' reference to the document.  But unfortunately such unreferenced child sources are treats as 'stray objects' by GenoPro and get deleted when the .gno is saved.  If you try to avoid the 'stray objects' problem by linking all EVIDENCEnnnnn sources to say a dummy Individual who is excluded from the report. then the child source appears in the report too.

Perhaps a solution would be to have a 'exclude from report' checkbox for source.
