I've switched back to version 2011.10.29 in the meanwhile. Translation improvements (Flemish version) will be done on that version only for a while.
I also have a lot of other work to do for the National Archives and GenoPro is not used for this. But, with a family reunion coming up next year I needed a stable and clean report version.

As you have no doubt observed over the years, the development of the Narrative Report is fairly sporadic and haphazard with changes and hopefully improvements made as new ideas surface. I try to follow the consensus view in this.I can certainly add back the original theme with no decoration as well as adopting vlepore's variations. Perhaps what is needed is a gallery view or 'theme picker' within the Config Params dialogue to make it easier for users to make a choice. I am busy on other things at present but will work on this as time permits.

It is not an official version of the skin, but only a variation on the standard theme.

What is the status of 2011.11.08 and later? Are these official skin versions or merely variations on the standard theme?
Personally, I don't like the latest "Christmas decoration" and would prefer the standard version to be as basic as possible. That people can change the default skin and theme, and personalise it is OK for me. But I have some problems with having to do some extra work to get the standard version back. Or am I wrong?

Naturally, is an error in the proposal.
in Code/themes/GreenLeaf/ theme.css, the background and text are the same color.
The correct color of the text is: color:# 495557;

I tried to develop the modifications proposed.
Attached:
- a complete skin with changes,
- A small doc with explanations
- Images of the possible combinations
but I'm not a software engineer and not even a web designer.
I just try to learn.

And since the brainstorming is no more in fashion, so here a further proposal. 
That looks good to me. I am essentially a software engineer and not a web designer so keep the ideas coming 
I'll put this into the mix with the next update and wait for any further reaction. I prefer to keep the title on a different line to the icons because of the long title and/or small screen issues.

And one question. Where to put the translated versions? To the section Report generator and create new topic or to the section Translation / Localization and corresponding language? I suggest they will be easier to find in the Translation / Localization section. If you create a topic there I can pin it so that it stays near the top. Have the first post in the topic as an introduction and always add a new post to it for each update, these are then easily visible as recents posts (where as edits to posts are not) older posts can be deleted (not the first). I will then include any ConfigMsgXX. xml files in the next release of the Narrative report.

Please feel free to develop the themes! Let me know how you want the top_pane.jpg graphics altering, and I'll upload new versions for inclusion in the next release. If there are any other colour schemes you'd like to see for themes - post up colour swatches - and I'll have a go.

The idea is good with the menu, a little less with the icons.
And I understand the need for uniformity, and to solve the problem of long titles.
I think, that a variety is required more... 
My opinion - new height (value 80 in default.htm) of heading frame there is good only for Text menu. Title and Icons should be in one line for the Icon menu (height value 45).
