i'm so sorry... I didn't do the recovery, i took the hdd to computer service shop in my country (Bangladesh) and they did it. many files were damaged after recovery like this gno file.they said that's the best they could do. I personally corrected some files (like simple doc html file).I deleted rest of the files as they were unusable and unimportant. BUT THIS GNO FILE IS SO IMPORTANT THAT I CAN'T DELETE IT. U KNOW THE IMPORTANCE OF SUCH FILE LIKE NO  OTHER, right?

I  tried to correct the file by eliminating the html coding and the writings (u said poeMS) using notepad... but no use!!! it's so frustating!!

Anyway, countless thanks to you Smile

What "recovery software" have you used?

can it be an error of the file recovery software combining  the gno and other html coding in one file?

I opened the .gno file using Notepad and found javascript code in plain text.  I also found a poem in  HTML code in the .gno file.  My impression is the .gno file is some attachment which was saved under the incorrect extension, however it was not a GenoPro file.

When GenoPro saves a document, it compresses it, so even if your family would contain javascript or a poem, it would be unreadable by Notepad.

I created my genealogy file using genopro 1.91b (Genopro Gold) probably back in 2003/04. Couple of years back, my desktop crashed and hard drive wiped out. I recovered the genealogy file using a recovery software but I couldn't open the file, even now. what can I do?
