How does one get Custom Tag data included in the Gedcom file created by the Report Generator? By the very nature of Custom Tags, such data is not needed/wanted by every user.

However, understanding where insertions would be needed in the released .js file is not obvious and any such changes would have to be reapplied every time that a new skin version is downloaded. Is there any documentation to help with such user modifications?

Yes at present you would need to add bits to the .js.  However it would be quite straightforward to add hooks to the script to allow you to drop in extra files containing the code required.  Alternatively I could add a couple of textarea input fields to the Config Params, one for INDI tags and one for FAM tags, allowing you to put code there and have it saved with the param profile (i.e. in registry). This would then be retained in any future version.

Update: See http://support.genopro.com/Topic25071.aspx for a solution.  The lines of javascript entered will be executed for each Individual/Family.  The variable 'i' refers to the Individual object and variable 'f' to the Family object.

Happy to give assistance with scripting if required.

I think I understand the gist of your last post but not all of the detail/terminology.

I currently have some user code inserted for individuals between the writes for SEX and BIRT records. I am not sure that is necessarily the best place but perhaps the exact order in which records are written is not important. Being just text, I did not have trouble with record formats. I have used many different programming languages but am not familar with javascript.

I have now added further code at the same place which includes variable data and don't really know what format to use. I have found something which works but is possibly not the best.

While generally looking around GenoPro and the provision for Custom Tags, I now think that this latest data would probably be better recorded as family data rather than against an individual. However, that would need to be written elsewhere in the Gedcom file and I anticipate problems with maintenance in the future. It looks as if family data is written before that for individuals but the order is changed in the resultant Gedcom file.

Hence my original question about how best to handle this situation and whether there is any guidance available. Ideally, I would not have to rework my inserted code every time that a new version of the skin is made available.

If you use the latest Export to Gedcom skin then you do not need to alter the skin itself.  You can simply paste the extra code you require into the the Individuals Custom Tag box under the 'Custom Tag Handling' tab of the Config Params. i.e. into this box:

This will be saved for future runs of the skin and retained over new releases of the skin.

If you would like advice on what code to include please send me a PM with details.

Sorry to be so dense but how do I find the displayed Parameter Settings screen?
I had already downloaded the new skin and read the History file but then I am lost. What am I missing?

Have you installed the skin correctly. I.e. in a folder BELOW your skins folder? If so then the skin will appear as a new entry in the drop down list of skins in the Generate Report dialogue. Ensure the the box under 'Configuration Parameter Settings'  (Options Tab) is NOT TICKED. Then you are good to go.

Thank you. Yes I had installed everything correctly but was looking for something to update before starting the report generator. I had ticked the box for Parameter Configuration Settings in Options Tab several years ago and did not realise/remember that would give access during the report generation.
