It is difficult to make suggestions for GenoProX but assume it is based on existing style.
One possible improvement of the individual Properties menu is on the Death tag. If you select the Deceased check box the fields become active but the focus should move to 'Date of Death', which is likely to be the first piece of information to be entered. At present you have to select this field before adding any data.
Navigation toolbar Being an old Dosser I tend to use the keyboard shortcuts plus right click on a selection. The main interest is the selection in the selection icons, which on a hi-res screen can be difficult to distinguish. The ones I oiften confuse are the first two, Select One Generation or Select Entire Tree. It would be clearer if the tree icon used that used in the Report - the tree icon.
Trying to think of other minor points: File properties. I often use different drives to store the gno file, particularly when I use Ancestry at a library and take the file on a memory stick. Back home I can forget where the file being worked on has been saved. File properties could usefully display drive/folder information.

Hi Peter,Thank you for your feedback. GenoProX has a completely new user interface and I will give you a link so you can try it, and we can work together to improve it. GenoPro 2016 uses an architecture which is 18 years old, and trying to fix it is very risky to create new bugs and probably more work than working on GenoProX. This is why we are rewriting GenoProX completely from scratch.

Hi Dan,
It seems you may have offered Peter a link to try out the new interface of GenoProX? If so, are you willing to provide the link to 'anyone'? I would like to test it. In the last few years I started using Family Tree Maker because of its syncing capabilities with the genealogical documents on Ancestry.com. I've done my best to keep FTM in sync with my GenoPro tree, but this has proved very difficult. I would move fully to FTM but I don't want to lose many of the features only GenoPro has. I'm interested in seeing if GenoProX is possibly going to make this easier to maintain. |

GenoProX is not available to the public yet. We do use it every day for our internal communication, however we are refactoring the code to upgrade the architecture to sandbox multiple users with multiple profiles on a single machine.

Something I would love to see as part of this interface is more flexible name display options, which I've mentioned here before. I work with very large genealogies, and cutting and pasting each individual's name components to get the configuration I want is not an option, because I don't have the remaining lifespan of our sun to work with (this is only a slight exaggeration). What would be perfect is a drag-and-drop interface for arranging the name component fields in both the default settings and the individual / selection view. For example, the ideal name field arrangement for me (looking at GenoPro 2011 for the field names) is: Title First Middle "Nick" Last (Last2) Suffix (Alternative), but this is not an available option, so I have to choose between having the alternative name (which I use for titles of nobility and royalty) visible and not having the silly-looking {=} around the suffix (which I would like to be using for the ordinals for kings and queens, but usually I sacrifice the middle name field for this to avoid the {=} appearing, which limits me in other ways).
Many thanks for returning to development of this program! Looking forward to seeing the new version!
