I love the Genopro
interface
and
tree
generator.
I'm deciding whether to
purchase
the newest Genopro (I've got the ancient free
beta
) or go with a free alternative like GRAMPS.
I'm just not sure whether or not Genopro adheres to universal
GED
standards. If I thought I would be safe
sharing
.ged files with users of other programs then I would prefer to use Genopro.
Any advice?

If you want the complete story, better do a
search
in this forum with GEDCOM as keyword.
In short, and as far as I know, GenoPro Supports two "formats" of GEDCOM. One which I would like to call the "standard" version, the other the "GenoPro" version.
The "standard" version adheres to the GEDCOM 5.5 standard. It must be generated using a special
report
type called GEDCOM. My personal experience is that a lot of other
genealogy programs
do not fully adhere to the 5.5 standard. At the best they just ignore expressions they cannot parse, but a lot of them simply crash.
The "GenoPro" version contains, next to the standard stuff, special GEDCOM markers to be able to store GenoPro specific stuff like
color
, screen positions, relations etc. Components that are unknown to the GEDCOM 5.5 standard but can be defined anyhow. Such a GEDCOM version will not be understood by other genealogy programs, unless you run it through a standardising filter first.
Hope this
helps
.
