Hi

A few years back I created a family tree based on a load of information my mother pulled together. Then my daughter got into it and so I created a copy of the GNO file so that she could practice updating areas. Then my in-laws had a load of information about their side of the family and this was updated.

Following a change in PC, I updated a few births and deaths on the tree and this week discovered that we now have 3 different files which have been used.

Yes, I know!

What I am wondering is if there is a way to merge the three together? If I import one into another, I get a load of duplicates. That's not ideal.

I tried using a cloud solution like GENI to import and merge, but that just ignored people and it's even worse than it was. So before I spend ages trying to copy and paste, I was wondering if there was an easy way of getting out of this messy hole?

Thanks all.

You could try to export the GNO data to XML (GenoPro / File / Export / Export to XML Format) and then use a tool like WinMerge to compare two versions and merge/update the differences.

Use a copy of the version that is the most complete as 'master' and merge the other ones into it one at a time.  Make enough safety copies on the way.

Just in case anyone else stumbles across this, it worked. I downloaded Winmerge and linked two family tree files. I clicked on Compare and it told me teh differences. I went through and merged the ones I needed to and saved it as a different name. Then I went and did it again when I realsied I had made mistakes. Opening the xml file in Genopro was simple and I'm good to go now.

Thanks for the advice.
