Hi everyone,

I’m hoping someone here can help me figure out what I’m doing wrong because I’ve been stuck on this for a couple of days now.

I’m using GenoPro to build a fairly detailed family tree for a school project, and everything was going fine at first. I added multiple generations, relationships, and even started including medical conditions and notes for each individual. The problem started when I tried to add more complex relationships (like half-siblings and remarriages).

Here’s what’s happening:

  • I created a couple who had two children.
  • Then I added a second partner for one of them (a remarriage situation).
  • When I try to assign children from the second relationship, GenoPro either links them to the wrong parent or duplicates the relationship line in a weird way.
  • In some cases, the children appear connected visually, but when I click on them, the parent info is incorrect or missing.

I also tried deleting and recreating the relationships, but then other parts of the tree get messed up (like siblings no longer being grouped correctly). It’s like fixing one thing breaks another.

Another issue is that sometimes when I reopen the file, a few connections seem to shift or not display the way I left them. I’m not sure if that’s a saving issue or something else.

What I’ve tried so far:

  • Rebuilding that section of the tree from scratch
  • Double-checking that I’m using the correct “union” tool instead of just connecting lines manually
  • Saving under a new file name to avoid corruption

I’m wondering:

  1. Is there a correct workflow for handling multiple marriages and children from different partners?
  2. Could this be a bug, or am I misunderstanding how GenoPro expects relationships to be structured?
  3. Is there a way to “lock” relationships so they don’t get altered when editing nearby parts of the tree?

If anyone has run into something similar or can point out what I might be doing wrong, I’d really appreciate it. This project is getting pretty big and I’d rather not have to start over 😅

Thanks in advance!
