... I am thinking of adding flags to indicate the countries involved, in this case mostly Scotland, Australia, New Zealand and England , but also including Wales, Ireland, France, USA, Puerto Rica, Sweden and some others.

Geeee, I need to add the list of countries so they can be accessed by country code such as "IE", "FR", "US", "PR", "SE" and others.

You might use this list of country codes.

It should be the best ...

You might use this list of country codes.

Thanks for the link.  The country list is not a "normal enumeration" like the PlaceCategory or the IndustrySector.  When importing from a Gedcom file (or other data source), it is possible a country name was misspelled, so GenoPro must have a provision for misspelled country names.  On the other hand, GenoPro must offer a mechanism to get the two-letter country code via place.country.id for scripting.

I dissagree

i made this tread to make it easy for people to add names that they have found or that they currently maintian.

think of it as a charity with people premetively donating there work for others to look threw

if you make it harder by uping the reqired info then that charity will dry up and youll be left with what you had before ....... witch is basicly 100000 "im looking for" threads and no acutall leads.

I am not sure what you are talking about.  I guess it is not about the "country list" (which is off topic from the Master List).

if you make it harder by uping the reqired info

Simplicity is always my goal.  I want people to be able to upload all their names to GenoPro.com with a single mouse click.  On the other hand, quality is also my goal.  I want people to be able to add (attach) additional information to a specific name, and have a mechanism to be contacted.

I was not clear about the details of the workings of this project.  I fully understand what you meant: submitting a Master List without the hassle of having to enter extra information.  Simplicity is my goal too.  On the other hand, I want people to have access a forum dedicated for each family name, so they can communicate and post more information.  This will be a cool project and I am hoping very useful to the genealogy community.  This project is being developed by my brother, so it will not delay GenoPro 2.0.

I at last understand where you are going with this topic!

I didn't realise you intended creating individual name forums.

Though there are already Surname forums on Geneology.com and else where, having new ones on GenoPro could perhaps breathe new life into the research effort if the names were perhaps devided into national or continental categories.

My family is mostly from Scotland, but then went to such places as Australia and New Zealand, though there are branches and ancestors in several other countries.

Most of my more important research must be in Scotland between the 1600's and 1800's particularly in Fifeshire and Lanarkshire.

A lot of the information on later gererations depends on the generous contributions of various distant cousins around the world, some of whom have been most helpful, others, perhaps, are too busy to help (or just not interested in the family tree!)

The "Surname forums" from Genealogy.com limited to a single topic per surname. Messages are posted one after the other and cannot be easily organized.  For instance, take a look at http://genforum.genealogy.com/morin/all.html, you will see it is difficult to maintain a conversation about a specific ancestor.

My idea is to have something better where users capable submit names directly to GenoPro.com from their family tree.  Similairly, users could fetch surname information from the names already found in their family tree.  I don't know all the details about the inner workings, but I have a pretty clear idea of what I want.  I think people will use this feature.  There is no such thing on the web at the moment.

I like the idea, though I think it will take some work to get it working, for which I wish you luck.

I have also found Geneology. com difficult to follow especially for the Tait forum which mixes Taits with Tates which are mostly American!

For the Beaths it is simpler as there are unfortunately very few postings!

Hitting the "upload" button would submit to GenoPro the names from the .gno file.  You keep your .gno file.  GenoPro would then use this list of names, and create a dedicated forum for each name.  You would access the forum with a URL something like: http://FamilyNameSearch.GenoPro.Com/<FamilyName>/ .  This forum would be integrated with the support forum /w same username login & password.

So, basically these forums would be for GenoPro members only?

If so, I think it would be a mistake, since from what I see there are not much members who share the same surnames. If we want to locate others who research the surname it has to be open to everyone.
