A genogram on a PC can contain both internal and external hyperlinks, which look the same on the display. Is it possible to use different colours for these? I suspect this is not possible/easy as they are probable a system device. The reason for distinguishing them is that they do behave differently.

The internal links are generated within the program, mainly to link GenoMaps. These are translated automatically by the Report Generator and, as far as I can see, work perfectly.

I have used two types of external hyperlinks, which look the same as internal links on my PC. This is no problem for me, as I know what they are supposed to do. Other users may not be aware of the difference and this could cause problems. This is particularly a problem if I pass a genogram file to a contact without the other external files.

The first type is a link to an external site such as that relating to a cousin at
http://crasheng.bravepages.com/stirlingcrasheng.htm
This loads into the PC.
A report generated in 2.b15 will load the genogram into IE6 and the link can be seen and the file imported. However if you use the SVG viewer this link is not present, nor is it accessible from the information on the main page. As an aside, I am impressed that the SVG viewer provides a link back to the individual data, as seen in v.1

The other way I have used hyperlinks so far is to link between different files on my PC. I have cases where a (problem) ancestor also appears in a local one name study. (This has helped to suggest solutions to 2 problems so far). However these links do not work in the Report Generator.

The SVG viewer ignores them completely, which is probably the best thing to do at the moment. In the Genogram in IE6 the link is present but produces a 404 error file not found. This is not surprising as the URL linked to this hyperlink comprises the root address of the file on the web plus the hyperlink from the original file on the PC, which is of the format
Wiltshire.gno?id=ind00371

I suspect that some of these things will have to wait until next year and when 2.xx starts to appear but it would be useful to trap the 404 errors. I also look forward to the reappearance of the external links in the non IE reports
