I have been working with the sources tab for two days and I still can not figure out the logic of how it works between parent and subordinate sources. Here is my step-by-step work on this...

(1) Starting clean, I choose and individual. I add a new source from the sources tab- a source that I wish to be a parent called "Loudon Park Cemetery" and I include all relevant information I can think of.

(2) I add a new source called "Headstone of William J. Williams" and pick it's parent source as "Loudon Park Cemetery" (so far so good).

(3) I add another source called "Headstone of George J. Williams" and again pick "Loudon Park Cemetery" as the parent.

What I discovered in the source tab list are my two headstone entries in the title column with the correct parent in the parent column ... and then the parent is also by itself in the title column and obviously without a parent source (seemingly by design). Now, if I try to go into the parent "Louden Park Cemetery" as listed in the title column and make changes to it, I get a message that says "There is already a source with that name, please choose a unique source name."

How do I edit a parent source so that I can add additional information to it (such as a subtitle) and save it without the program asking for a unique name? I am not trying to add a new source, I am simply trying to edit the parent so that it is more relevant to the subordinates.

Replying to myself here,

I have also found that in addition to not being able to edit my source information by going back to add subtitles or change information- sometimes the subtitles and other information is assigned to the wrong entry upon reopening the program. This is completely random and has caused numerous headaches.

An example is a bible record entry that was complete suddenly showed up in the source list in the source tab with a subtitle and other information from another entry- a business directory!

There are several things I wanted to include to the sources & citations, however those features have been postponed for a future version of GenoPro.  We are currently making audio-video tutorials how to use GenoPro.

If you think you have a bug, you are welcome to send me a sample .gno file and give me step-by-step instructions to reproduce the bug.  I will personally look at it.  During the Beta phase, there has been a few usability bugs where two sources could have identical names.  It is possible there is still a bug there.

You can edit the parent source using the menu View/Table Layout - Sources & Citiations. Select the parent source and press enter.

When looking into this I did find another error that can be demonstrated as follows:

Create a new individual and open its property dialogue. Click Sources tab. Enter a new source, say with title 'parent'. Click the 'new' button to create a 2nd source, and enter title of say 'child'. set its parent source to be 'parent'. now in the list of sources at the bottom click the 'parent' source and try to remove it from the list by clicking the 'remove' button. GenoPro crashes. If before trying to remove the parent from the list you close the dialogue by pressing enter and then bring up the dialogue a 2nd time it can be successfully removed.

The crash has been fixed.  I am currently bundling a few other fixes for version 2.0.0.3.

Thanks for the reply on this. One thing I should clarify about my posts of yesterday was that I realized before the end of the day, that I was using an older version (18- I believe) and after upgrading to 2.0.0.2 much of my issues were already resolved! Sorry about that.

I have a few wish list suggestions on the topic of SOURCES, so I will post them separately. This is really a great program and I really like what you've done to improve it. I'm especcially impressed that you improve the program based on user comments instead of arbitrarily making decisions without imput. It has made the experience of re-manipulating my info from the original version of GenoPro and rearranging it in the new version quite enjoyable!

Every paid customer is entitled to participate to our survey.  A few days after your purchase, you will receive an email inviting you to participate to our customer feedback survey.  You can cast your vote on what features you wish in future releases of GenoPro.  So far, we have received several thousand of written comments.  I read all of them, however I don't have time to reply to everyone.  If I would take 5 minutes to reply to each comment, this task would take several weeks.
