I feel this is probably even more awaited than the 13h with the first new report generator. A agree with you. With the improvements in Beta14, the report generator is ready to hit the street and generate millions of HTML pages. I re-wrote the VBScript code to give a good structure so users can easily modify and customize their reports.

Hopefully the schedule holds this time - it must be really bothersome and irritating to give such bad ETAs for beta testers.
I think the update - whether or not it includes all there's to come for this beta - would be welcome already so we could test it and hopefully aid him finding bugs and solutions. There's gonna be a lot of 14's (a's and b's and c's...) anyway so why should it be hold back any longer in case there's not something major going on. One step at a time. Even on GenoPro site it says:
"Beta14: Code stability & feedback. - Many individuals have been waiting for this new report generator. The anticipated volume of questions and suggestions will be high. - Modify the Table Layout to create a 'copy on write' for shared records (pictures, places, contacts)."
and I'm sure there's already a lot more into it than this because Dan & co. have done a GREAT JOB, far "more than anticipated".

The ETA's were never more than hoped for deadlines and we have learnt to be patient!I also hoped it would be out this week end, but after all it is Sunday today, so let's be cool about it. Monday will be fine!

iaintait (8/28/2005) The ETA's were never more than hoped for deadlines and we have learnt to be patient! This is true, however the number of features has always been greater than originally planned. When I was thinking of GenoPro 2.0, back in 1999, I never thought GenoPro would have support for Unicode, GenoMaps, internal hyperlinks, and a report generator running VBScript and JavaScript. Similairly, I never though the report generator would be capable to generate narrative phrases. The quality of reports generated by Beta 14 is amazing... What is surprising is the simplicity of the scripting code to generate such reports.

Are you still working on fixing bugs in your Beta14 version on your computer? I thought that all of us, Your Beta testers, can help you with that task, if you release that version a.s.a.p. After all, We are here to help you as much as we can.

beraha (8/28/2005) Are you still working on fixing bugs in your Beta14 version on your computer? No bug fixes no new features... just reviewing and testing the code. For instance, I am making sure all Enumerations in the LanguageDictionary are up-to-date. I am also asking the question "Is this the best way of doing such and such?"

I am also asking the question "Is this the best way of doing such and such?" Being too much of a perfectionist can be a pain, sometimes, to others less demanding. Being a bit of a perfectionist myself (but no way near Dan !) I understand the temptation to go " just a little bit further" before finishing ! Though I don't reach Dan or Ron's ankles as far as computer knowledge goes, I also have spent ages trying to improve my web site and tree, but a few compliments from distant cousins made it all worth while! The consolation for the wait is in the knowledge that the final result is going to be amazing. I have a sneaking feeling that Dan had only just begun his extraordinary life in programming which will not just be GenoPro.

Dealing with the report generator is very delicate, because all tags must be supported in the future, otherwise existing code will break. It is true software bugs can be fixed, however restructuring an object model is a very tedious task and often leads to data loss. In fact, most corporations never go that route, as they choose to maintain a flawed data structure... until the death of the product or the company. In the next years, you will see many genealogy titles go away because they have been poorly designed and cannot be fixed unless rebuilt from scratch.

This hurdle of the first Beta14 seems to be the most important as I feel that the future improvements and Beta versions will all be minor compared with this one.We are all with you, don't stop being a perfectionist! :
