A nice idea, but I see by the last posting that the quantities of names involved could pose a problem somewhere.
My tree also contains hundreds of surnames names and over 4000 entries so far!
And it appears from the forum that some trees contain tens of thousands of names.
Perhaps a link to each "names list" would take up less space on the forum?
The mention of countries of origin is usefull as how many times have I been looking for family in Scotland only to find 99% of the names are from the USA!
Here is a link to my tree names list.

http://www.beath.net/tree/index.html

This was done using the old report generator and by copying and pasting all the places of birth, marriage and death!
That is why I am so keenly waiting for the new generator to be more complete.

It goes just down to:

Ask Dan if he could delete your post (and this mine), and re-post list in parts of some up to 100 last names in sequence!

GenoPro is moving away from phpBB to Instant Forum. The new support forum will have better search capability, not to mention better interfaces for integration (login, loss password, lost GoldenKey, etc).

I already purchased the forum at http://support.genopro.com/, however I am waiting for the official version 4.0. The current version 3.4 uses different database tables, so I will have to re-do the whole thing.

For those searching names, I have good news for you. In the future, there will be a forum dedicated for each last name, with cross linking between those forums.

This is the sort of lateral thinking that could very well come up with something really usefull, so keep thinking as all these contributions are valuable.
Each of us has his own priorities and talents, I might have some priorities (i.e. my research), but perhaps no tallent for programming.
Hunting for info on the web can be very frustrating and time consuming and so any contribution to simplify the task is welcome.

I see that people still insist on posting enormous lists of names on the forum  instead of "links" to their "Names Lists".

The proposed "Master List" will probably be useful, but depends on how it is set up and the quality of info supplied by the users.

I personally think that "Links" to lots of "names lists" would be more usefull, and even more so if the "flags" were to be used to indicate the countries covered by any given "names list".

Perhaps "lists" classed under each "country" would be even better, so giving researchers the possibility of only going to lists covering their countries of interest. Discuss

I have resisted the temptation to add my "huge" names list to the forum and have only put the link to my web names list elsewhere on this forum and in my profile (my site was off-line recently due to a hosting problem-they were on holiday!) w00t

(Now it is on-line again)Smile

This feature is under way.  The tool for Translating names from one language to another will handle the "Master List".  People will be able to write more information about each name, including a brief history and location where they would like information about a specific name.  Users will be able to subscribe to the names they want to be notified when a new post is available. For extra information, you are welcome to read post web search.

This is a big project and it is something I care about.  My brother already started working on it.

The report generator will be the best way to generate those names list.  Beta 14 (coming next week) has a wealth of search keywords for visitors searching any name found in the generated report.  You will be amazed how many visitors will find your report on the web by searching for family names found in your report.

My web site home page has a names list without links to show all names mentioned so that browsers can see at a glance if the name they are looking for is contained in my tree and save wasting time searching the tree.

My web tree obviously has a names list generated by GenoPro and the links I have supplied in this forum point to this version.

I will start reworking my web tree once the new generator arrives and I am thinking of adding flags to indicate the countries involved, in this case mostly Scotland, Australia, New Zealand and England , but also including Wales, Ireland, France, USA, Puerto Rica, Sweden and some others.
