By the way, your report is hidden if password-protected. Therefore it is impossible for a visitor to be aware there is such a report, never mind contacting the author.

There are two reasons why I suggested that a link to the author should be added to the password protected page

1 I can guarantee that some members of my family who have been told about the web site will forget the password and it would be easier to have a link, rather than have to remember an email address. We are dealing with an older generation here!

2 If for any reason it is necessary to change the password it is better that the new version is distributed through the web site, to the people who know the link but not the new access code.

One possibility would be to have the option to contact the author if an incorrect password is entered for any reason

This is a great suggestion.  We will implement this feature for sure.  We also need to write a good HTTP 404 handler (file not found) to display the visitor landing on the non-existent page about the author who originally generated the now deleted file.
