The first parameter of the PhUnion label give the names of the maried paar (or They)

         <!--   V="2.0.1.7RC?±" 0=spouse names|they,
        <PhUnion
T="{  }{\U}{!0} [{?!1|2|3|4|5|6}[{?7^8}are][{!}were]][{?1|2|3|4|5|6}were][{?9} ]{!9} married[ {1}]{2}{3h}[ by[{?!5} {12}][{!} {4}][ {5}]][[{?4|5} and] witnessed by {6}]."

This Zero pararameter are using the PhThey label
<!-- V="2.0.1.6±" 0=name, 1=partner's name, Force 'they' if both absent
               Test={0}=James|, {1}=Lily|  -->
<PhThey
T="[{0h}][{?1}[{?0} and] {1h}][{?!0|1}{0=They}]"
V="2011.07.21"/>

But like you kwnow, we use an article.... that can be withe apostrof

    En(El) Joan i l'Isabel
    L'Albert i la Maria

How can we found a solution?
By Jordi-Albert - Thursday, February 15, 2024
Can you use the function PnP on Lang.Vbs in conjuction of the Labels
PA_M   = "En"
PA_F    = "La"

NewNoum = PA_M + Name.First

and then make the translation of the PossessiveProperNoun label?

this will be done in all the noums and it will be correct

Note: Depending of the zone, the PA_M and PA_F can be:

PA_M = "El"
PA_M = "La"

PA_M = "Na"
PA_M = "Sa"
etc...
By genome - Friday, February 16, 2024
I will shortly release amended Skin Templates that should hopefully provide a solution based on the discussion at https://support.genopro.com/Topic43703.aspx but with some changes. all 'short names' , generally Name.First but can differ) will have the correct article prefixed to it either based on the dfaults in Dictionary.xml or override from Name.Article custom tag. Possessive Proper Nouns will be derived from the 'articled' short name.
By Jordi-Albert - Friday, February 16, 2024
thanks
By Jordi-Albert - Wednesday, March 13, 2024
The apostrof works on most noums... also on Months

(Va neixer) el 22 de maig del 1924 is correct but

(Va neixer) el 22 d'abril del 1924
(Va neixer) el 22 d'agost del 1924
(Va neixer) el 22 d'octubre del 1924

all the other months are de xxx only this three use the apostrof

I think it will be the labels:
<FmtYMD> <!--  Jan 31st, 2006  -->
[|~|<|>]"el" d "de" MMMM "del" yyyy
</FmtYMD>

and
<FmtDateLong> <!--  Monday, January 31st, 2006  -->

[|aproximadament|abans del|posteriorment al] dddd "de" MMMM "del" yyyy
</FmtDateLong>

Can we use
<FmtYMD_Apr>  <FmtYMD_Aug> <FmtYMD_Oct>
                        [|~|<|>]"el" d "d'"MMMM "del" yyyy
<FmtDateLong_Apr>   <FmtDateLong_Aug>   <FmtDateLong_Oct>
                        [|aproximadament|abans del|posteriorment al] dddd "d'"MMMM "del" yyyy

may be all the labels unten
<FmtDateDefault>
<FmtDateLong>
<FmtDateNarrative>

(I hope are all there)

the question of the Date, was not hier?

<ConvertDateSpan
T="de ([aeiou])=d'$1:el ([aeiou])=l'$1:al ([aeiou])=a l'$1:del ([aeiou])=de l'$1:"/>

but it's not working!!

By genome - Monday, March 18, 2024
I do not think 'but it's not working!!' is an accurate statement. Maybe it is not working in the way you would like it to?

ConvertDateSpan was introduced to the Narrative Report some 17 years ago in 2007 to fix an issue with the french translation, see https://support.genopro.com/Topic17865.aspx and https://support.genopro.com/Topic17661.aspx.

It deals specifically with date ranges, hence DateSpan, but not single dates.

Your requirement for the Catalan translation is a new issue. I will investigate whether or not a similar approach to ConvertDateSpan can be introduced to resolve this issue.
By Jordi-Albert - Monday, March 18, 2024
that's true... it's not working in the way that I was thinking and I'm trying to find the best way to solve it

and I wasn't know that muss work with date ranges....

Sorry... but sometime it's difficult for me to say what I want in englisch
By genome - Friday, March 22, 2024
The three files attached replacing the ones in Common\Code folder should resolve this issue.

I have renamed the Dictionary.xml tag from ConvertDateSpan to ConvertDateString to reflect its new function but my script will still accept both names. The scripts have been changed to apply the 'regular expression' checks specified in that tag to all narrative dates in the report and apply the conversion where matches are found.

Once you have confirmed that these changes are fixing the problem I will update the report skins bundle.

Edit 2024.03.26 amended Lang.vbs to correct problem introduced in previous changes that causes children to be reported ad ' of unknown gender'
By Jordi-Albert - Sunday, April 14, 2024
On the first Message I spoke about the PhUnion and it's solved....
but it was an example.

Really I need to use the article everytime that we use the name (maybe there are some exemptions, but in this moment I can't find them)

Can you change it?

(I hope, that with this change, the Catalan version will be ready, after rewiew, in few Weeks)

So more challenges with the Catalan translation Unsure Smile

I've made some changes to a couple of the files in Common/Code and are attached to this post. I believe these add the article to all occurrences of the name except for the Individual Index page and the heading of the Individual page. Please try these and let me know if they work ok or there are more changes required.

Sorry... I try to check everything... this is the reason because I need so much time

No need for sorry, I am happy to try and resolve all issues with your Catalan translation of the Narrative Report.

But this time I apologise as I tested the wrong version of my code.

Please try the attached Util.vbs and see if this works better Smile
By Jordi-Albert - Monday, April 15, 2024
Now it works...

but I'm not sure about if it works correctly.

Tomorrow I will unzip all the last release (from 11.04) and I will use the last two files to see of all works ,,,
By Jordi-Albert - Monday, April 22, 2024
I see not diferences between the last version and the previous one.

Normally if we are speaking from a Man or Woman we use the article, but not if the name is in a list (p.ex: the list of brothers and sisters)

Red is correct the article, but not the apostrof.
Green is correct
Blue need the article

Yellow: I made it directly in the Dictionary. the article muss be with Name als parameter

By genome - Saturday, April 27, 2024
This has been a difficult issue to resolve. I am not sure your example was using the revised code however i does not matter because my code was still incorrect. have made some more changes that will hopefully bring us nearer a solution.

I had some difficulty in converting the 1st character of the article to upper case using the {\U} phrase generator directive when parameter {0} was from the PhThey text because of the way the GenoPro Phrase Generator works. I have therefore merged what was in PhThey into PhUnion directly. But in order not to disrupt usage by other languages I have done this in a new tag, PhUnion2, in the Dictionary.xml file. When PhUion2 is present, PhUnion & PhThey are not used.

I have attached a new report skins bundle with the revised code. In the English Dictionary.xml the PhUnion2 tag is commented out. You will need to copy this to your Catalan Dictionary removing the comment tags. N.B. the spouse/partner is parameter {13}. I think is should be like this below, apologies if my translation is incorrect.

<PhUnion2
T="{  }{\U}[[{?!14}{0h}][{?14}{0}]][{?13}[{?0} i ]{13h}][{?!0|13}{0=Ells}] [{?!13|2|3|4|5|6}[{?7^8}són][{!}eren]][{?13|2|3|4|5|6}eren][{?9} ]{!9} casat[ {1}]{2}{3h}[ pel[{?!5} {12}][{!} {4}][ {5}]][[{?4|5} i] presenciat per {6}]."
V="2024.04.26+"/>

Also the tag PhFamilyWith should not need explicit articles but should be:

<PhFamilyWith
T="{3}La [{1} ]família {0} amb {2}"
G1="F"/>

The solution for Articled Nouns relies on the ArticledName tag

<ArticledName
T= "(en )(([AEOUH]|I[^AEOUH]).*)=n'$2Sadla )(([AEOUH]|I[^AEOUH]).*)=l'$2Sad.*)=$1:"
T2 = "(en |el )(.*)=d'$1$2Sad.*)=de $1:"
M = "en "
F = "la "
V="2024.02.17+"/>

see description in English Dictionary.xml in {EN} Narrative Report folder

If this version works for you I will post the report skins bundle in the usual forum thread.

It is doubly difficult working on these translation issues because I do not have access to your Catalan Dictionary.xml. Please consider posting a copy here for me to use. Thank You.

I had adapted a lot of labels before and now I need to change them to the new Skin.

but the first look is good.

thanks

Thank you for your files. After further testing using them I can see there is an issue with tag PossessiveProperNoun used with tag PhParents . I am working on a solution for this, I think I have got a little confused with the several changes in this area. w00t

I will send to you a new ZIP with all the Catalan Reports.

by the way the abreviation of Catalan ist CA
in South of France, in Andorra and in a Part of Spain we speak catalan (and also in Alger, a city in Sardinia)

I believe I have manged to resolve most issues. My test based on your sample now produces:

https://support.genopro.com/Uploads/Images/88a33248-1df7-45ef-974a-187e.png

I have have added the folder {CA} Informe Narratiu to the revised skins bundle attached. This was used to produce the page above.

The code now uses the T2 attribute of the ArticledName tag is now used and I have removed PA_M PA_F PAv_M etc tags. I have removed surplus articles such as 'en' from your dictionary phrases.

Yours files labellers.js & timeline.js have been placed in {CA} Informe Narratiu and Config.xml changed to include them s that they get copied to the report folder.

I have compared Dictionary.xml in your zipped {CA} Informe Narratiu with the one in Skins2024.04.30.zip using WinMerge and managed to resolve most of the differences including removing your §1234§ markers Smile but I am left with the following differences

https://support.genopro.com/Uploads/Images/d1c92dfb-b76f-4c94-b162-7268.png

The two files after editing are attached. Could you provide corrections please.
By Jordi-Albert - Thursday, May 2, 2024
Hello Ron,

sorry for the markers §1234§... i have forgot to remove them (I use them to know what label is used on every situation)

Both links give me an error.

About the changes that you have found:
1- Vowels with accent are like vowels without them. Correct

2, 3, 4- article will be with the Noun, we don't need now them (also: remove)

5- I have detected that this sentence work better with my last correction

Thanks....

I have found also some other errors, but first I want to work a little more with them
By genome - Friday, May 3, 2024
Both links give me an error.

Right click on link and then click 'Save As' otherwise the browser tries to open it and fails on an encoding error

Update 2024.04.03

The browsers give an error when clicking the links (i.e. open file in browser) because the files have been encoded as ASCII rather than UTF-8.

I have converted the two files to UTF-8 and attached below. Please make your amendments to one of these versions to maintain encoding.

I will await your update to Dictionary.xml
