Lets take 2 steps back here and ask Should anybody really be interested in translating the grammatical issues problems of a language?'. I think not, because of the vagaries in the grammer of some languages where every word conjugates and you will never get it right 100% of the time.

To my way of thinking, we should be concentrating on providing information on the individual/s in each respective language by sub-titles...'Date of Birth', Date of Death' etc as in the form dialogues and not worry how phrases are joined by verbs, etc.

This is just a headache and delays further the implemetation of each language set.

It is a matter of opinion. Some of this forum members translated the basic skin into a wonderful new language report.

Moreover - You can create your own skin with the fields you described in no time... Wink

It is indeed true that translating phrases into languages -such as Finnish- where you have to inflect nouns and verbs it becomes a headache. Thanks to Ron and Dan, and the PossessiveProperNoun-thingy Hehe, I managed to inflect first names into possessive form (4 special cases), but inflection of surnames, place names and such are much too often irregular. That's why it's not even possible to use same kind of structures and I need to find a way around in order to avoid inflection. For example:

English: "X was abusing Y".
To avoid inflecting Y's name into objective form, I hard-code the word 'henkilöä' (objective of word 'person') into the phrase and make Y's name the attribute of this objective, which means that it remains in nominative form. So we have in Finnish: "X käytti hyväkseen henkilöä Y".

Of course this is not a very fluent way and like Cezary said, we should think is it really worth it? I personally think that IF there is plenty of information on people, it is of course fancy and cool having narrative phrases. BUT I really truly think that GenoPro should have built-in "tabular" or "simple" or "basic" or... whatever you might call it... alternative to this Narrative report. I've proposed this a long time ago, hope it will be implemented soon. Meanwhile I'm working on the translation of the current Narrative report and will begin posting my problems soon. One of the main problems is that Ron and Dan -understandably- have not taken into account the needs of the grammar of other languages and this is what I will expect from them as soon as my list will be ready.

I agree at the moment, it is quite difficult to translate a report into another language.  I have seen a few translated report and I am amazed by the result.  The Phrase Generator is our first step for generating narrative reports.  Before this there was no such as a narrative report.

Our goal fir this winter is creating a multilingual version of GenoPro with corresponding reports.  We will create additional modules to ease the translation, including upgrading some components of the report generator to handle linguistic rules.  We want the translation to be easy and we will work very hard to achieve this.  We will have a special forum dedicated for this and we will listen to feedback.
