I can't found this information and I think that I saw it.

in catalan (like in french) we have some articles that are diferent for male and for female, but also it change if the name starts with vocal or not

(male) El Jordi    (female) La Teresa  (famale with vocal)   L'Anna

How can I wrote this on the report?

(I was thinking on a susbtitute option direct in the sentence)

GenoPro supports conditional phrases: See http://www.genopro.com/sdk/Report-Generator/Phrase/#Conditional-Sub-Phrases for the technical details.

You can write words base on the gender of the individual.

Report.WritePhrase("Adding a [{?0=M}son][{?0=F}daughter] to family", i.Gender)

Thanks, but this is not the correct soluction for me.

I think that I saw it, but I can't find it.

what I need is something like

Report.WritePhrase("[{?1=M} En] [{?1=F} [{left(&0,1) = "A"|"E"|"I"|"O"|"U"} L'][{left(&!0,1) = "A"|"E"|"I"|"O"|"U"} L']] {0}" , i.name, i.gender)

in pseudocode

if gender = "M" then

      "En " & i.name

else

    if left(i.name,1) in "AEIOU" then

         "L' " & i.name

    else

         "La " & i.name

    end if

end if

Unfortunately that is only for the possive form. It is also available for the locative form but not for the definite article that you seem to need. Is this for a translation of the Narrative report or is it a new report? If the former for which particluarly phrases in Dictioonary.xml do you require it? e.g. PhBirth? PhDeath etc.

Thanks Ron,  (after three years I'm back BigGrin: )

it's on the catalan translation of the narrative report  ("dictionary.xml")

 <PhBirthTxt_F   T="La {!0}[{?1|2|8|9|10} [{?1|2|9|10} va neixer]{1}{2}[ va ajudar al part {8}][ després d'una gestació de [{9} mesos][{?!9}{10} setmanes]]]" />

I need to change "LA" to "L'" if the name {0} starts with AEIOU.

and yes, this changes are required on this type of sentences...

also I have others problems with the report... but I will start a new threath

I see from Catalan Grammar on Wikipedia that this can get quite complicated.

What I suggest is a modification to the Narrative Report (and Descendant Report) to optionally allow definition of rules for a noun with a definite article (or perhaps we should call it a Definite Articled Noun, or DAN for short BigGrinSmile in a similar way to the possessive proper noun. I've also seen the word 'preproprial article' used for this too.

I think there will need to be a masculine & feminine form of the rule. e.g.

<DefiniteArticledNoun T="(.+$)=en $1:" />
<DefiniteArticledNoun_F T="(^h?[aeiou].*$)=l'$1Sad.+$)=la $1:" />

I have used 'en' here as per your example but elsewhere 'el' or 'l' seems to be used??

What about couples? e.g. 'A and B were married ....' should it be 'En A'?

Is this form only used when the proper noun is the subject of a sentence? If so, I can supply this form as the 'name' param to PhBirth, PhOccupation, PhEducation & PhOccupancy phrases. Also the Social/Emotional Relationship ones.

By default the rules will be blank so that in other languages no article will be added.

Solved one part:

   <PossessiveProperNoun T="(^[aeiouyh].*$)=de l'$1Sad.+$)=de $1:" />

El pare de l'Isabel va ser en Josep i la seva mare és la Teresa
El pare d'en Jordi-Albert va ser en Josep i la seva mare és la Teresa

now we can start with the second part.... and it's exactly the problem that you are speaking on your last email.

El pare de l'Isabel va ser en Josep i la seva mare és l'Isabel
El pare d'en Jordi-Albert va ser en Josep i la seva mare és la Teresa

[b]Ron (1/15/2008)[/b

What about couples? e.g. 'A and B were married ....' should it be 'En A'?

the article in catalan is quite complicated.

we can say En Joan (M) or La Maria (F); L'Antoni (M, but start with vocal); L'Isabel (F)

but in the inseln of mallorca can use "Es Joan", "Sa Maria", "Na Maria"....

I think that we can start with the "DAN" and I will do a more detailed analisys.

(Thanks again Ron)

Note: Catalan is very closed to French (not to spanish)
