There is still a problem with the google map display when using the Narrative_2.0.1.6_(rev.2010.02.24).zip skin, when not using google map in a popup frame (in config.xml)

<fGoogleMapsLink Desc="Otherwise it is shown as a collapse/expand line in the place details popup page."
                         T="Show place 'Google Map' in 'popup' frame via a hyperlink?"
                         Default="N"
                         O1="Y:yes"
                         O2="N:no"
                         Type="bool" />

Here is an example:

I  am researching my ancestors from a family and found the publication at http://familytrees.genopro.com/Azrael/ which I share many common ancestors .  Once or twice I have been able to access and view their files.  But I have tried repeatedly (at least 25 times today) to open it and it knocks me off with the following message:
Webpage error details: Message: 'G_MAP_TYPE' is undefined

Firstly you should be clear that when browsing the Internet using Bing (or Google etc.) and opening 'GenoPro' web pages, you are accessing a web report generated from the user's genealogy data held within their GenoPro file (.gno), you are not actually accessing the GenoPro file directly. You do not need to have GenoPro installed in order to view such web pages. The web report you refer to was generated using GenoPro version 2.0.1.5 and the 'English Narrative Report' skin on 8 Sep 2008.
The 'G_MAP_TYPE' error occurs because unfortunately Google Inc. have changed their Google Map scripts since then, causing this error to be displayed with Internet Explorer.

However it does not 'knock you off', it simply prevents you displaying any Google Map pages within the report. The web report uses Google Maps to show locations of places within the report. You should still be able to view all the other details within the report.
To clear this error the author of the report must regenerate it with the latest version of the 'English Narrative Report' skin that can be found on the GenoPro forum.
If you use Firefox or Google Chrome as your browser you will avoid seeing this error but will still not be able to see the Google Map images within the report as the error is still present. I suggest you use the Firefox browser as Google Chrome is unable to display the SVG images (family tree diagrams) within the Report.
Because of the very large size of that report and the advertising in it I have found that Internet Explorer is sometimes unresponsive when viewing it. Perhaps this is why you think the error is 'knocking you off'.
Hope this helps to clarify things.

Hi Helen,
It seems that you still have the Google Maps problem and so it looks like you are not using the custom skin in the attachment correctly. Just unpack/unzip the attachment into a folder (e.g. as Updated Narrative Report) below your GenoPro skins folder (you can find and or change the location of your skins folder under the Options tab of the GenoPro 'Generate Report' dialog). Then select that folder from the drop down list of reports when you regenerate your narrative report.

Hi Ron,

I also am having trouble with Google maps on my family trees.

I have tried generating a report to the Genopro website for the O'Keefe/Archer Tree, using the attachment you provided, but I get an 'error' message.

I should say I think I have used the attachment properly, but I am sorry to say, I am not very smart in these matters.

I am also getting an 'error' message with my Crehan/Ryan Tree using the English Narrative Report from version 2.0.1.6

I have attached a copy of the two error messages I received.

I would appreciate any help you can give me.

Thanks

Wow Ron, I'm impressed with the quick turnaround.  I didn't realize the google maps had stopped working until I read this thread.

Thanks for incorporating the age in the SVG charts, as well as the Events Calendar.

Now have what I believe is a fix for this (see attached). I have also fixed the the Google Maps API version used to 2.132d which is what currently gets loaded. This revision has the other post 2.0.1.6 changes too, such as ages on SVG/PDF genomaps and a fix for thumbnails without IrfanView.

Unfortunately everyone will need to regenerate their Narrative reports with this version or edit their default.htm file as per earlier post if they want Google Maps to work unless Google can be persuaded to reinstate the deleted changes. :Sad:

OK I have discovered the cause (See http://groups.google.com/group/Google-Maps-API/browse_thread/thread/eec00441339c0a52/f3aa12ede0def372?q=g_map_type&lnk=nl&) . Google have changed their code and withdrawn some constant names that were working a week ago! So instead of
gMap.types=[-1,G_MAP_TYPE, G_SATELLITE_TYPE, G_HYBRID_TYPE];
It should now be
gMap.types=[-1,G_NORMAL_MAP, G_SATELLITE_MAP, G_HYBRID_MAP];

This is a bit naughty of Google and seems to have caught out a few people. I'll change default.htm in the skin and perhaps clamp the API to a particular version rather than any subversion of version 2 as it is at present. This should prevent any nasty surprises in the future.

For now you can edit default.htm yourself in either a custom skin or your generated report. I should have a revision available soon. Maybe its time for 2.0.1.7

Ron,

I'm having the same problem with the Native Report also as previous person. Just stopped working two days again.
