When upgrading the Flemish version of the dictionary.xml file from .5 to .6, I looked for a tool to help me with this.  After trying several ones, I decided to write my own xml differences tool.  This tool will only list the differences between two dictionary.xml files, you cannot use it to update the dictionary file itself.  I still prefer Notepad to do the actual update.

Feel free to download from http://www.floating-point.net/ancestry/genopro/
(Look in the table for the utility line and fetch the xmldiff.zip file.)

This ZIP file contains a utility called "FPS XMLdiff.exe".  I had to zip it because my web server does not like upper case characters nor spaces in file names.

The screen interface allows you to visualize matches, additions, removals and changes from one version to the other.   It also contains a hard-copy function (see Tools/Save Differences) that produces a text file with the display options you selected.   The tool comes as is.   I cannot promise you that it is bug free, nor can I offer you 24 x 7 support for enhancements.   If needed, drop me a line in this forum, I'll see what I can do.   Oh yes, I nearly forgot, the FPS (Floating Point Software) prefix was only added to differentiate this tool from the thousand or so others that can probably be found on the Internet.

Enjoy,
Nand
