The forums here are sending me in ever decreasing circles to ask for help.  I have no clue where to pose my question which is:-

I have been constructing a family tree with Genopro for some time now to pass my family history on to my only descendant.  It is taking time and I can only hope that I may complete it before time catches up with me.  The slow speed has been caused in scanning many family photographs, identifying them and adding them to the program with a descripion.  As I plan to move overseas soon I will need to continue to complete the project from there but also need to pass all the data on to my descendant either piecemeal (preferably) or when completed.
The question I need answered is how?  Is Genopro available as a portable option? Can I put the program and data so far on a disc or flash drive? Should I subscribe to Genopro for the descendant and if so how do I keep their tree up-to-date as I progress?  As I will be half a world away attempting to pass on family data it is important to me to do so, a box of old photo's that no one in the past bothered to date or identify is relying upon my memory for my family history to be passed on.

GenoPro should be able to completely satisfy your requirements.  If you want to pass on data you can create a disc with all of your data and also add the file GenoPro.exe, which will act as a viewer. You do not need an extra licence for this but the program can not be used to add extra information in this format.
If you publish a report it will contain the information of that date and so you can keep that up to date with regular republishing. If you want to restrict the report so only family members see it, that facility exists. I have two versions of my family tree on familytrees.genopro. One is password protected for family members. The second is public but uses the facility of the report writer to exclude living people.
Assuming you have the latest version of GenoPro, rather than the older version reported on the forum, you can make a copy of your data on to the GenoPro server so you have a secure back up and also the ability to retrieve the data from anywhere you can access the internet. The normal backup does not include all the photographs but there are other places for them eg Google's picasa and I use a free online server from Humyo.com 25Gb of storage.
Looking ahead the next version of GenoPro to be developed will include a collaborative version which is designed to allow different people to add to a family tree. Each person would need a licence for this. However, if my family is anything to go by, you need to wait until somebody shows more than a passing interest before you cross this bridge. Good luck with the scanning and also with the identification of people on the photos. There are too many unidentified pictures around

Many thanks for your rapid response, it seems I have many options as you have succinctly and helpfully explained.  I will now browse through them at leisure and try to decide which will best suit my needs.  Thankyou.

I generated my report, checked and double-checked the password, and when I upload the report, the program directs me to a GenoPro screen asking for the password.  I give it the password and it simply erases it and does nothing.  This is very frustrating.  What's the problem?

If you enter the wrong password at the log-in screen it will just clear that box. I have just tried this and then entered the correct password. Try again and check things such as Caps Lock: as you know, passwords are case sensitive but if, like me, you are not a good typist that lock can get overlooked - and the password is **** so you do not notice.

No go on the password.  I changed it, was very careful in entering it, and still no go.  I put up another tree a few days ago with one password that's different.  Is that a problem?  There's room in the program window for any number of generated reports.  Why is this all screwed up?  No matter which password I enter, I still can't access my main Family Tree!!!

It does look as though password protection does have some slight problems if you change passwords. I went to the page
http://collaboration.genopro.com/Account.aspx
and selected one of my reports and protected it. When loading it first asked for the password, without problem. I then went back and changed the password, which caused confusion. On reloading I was asked for the password in three different sections of the report and could not get all of it working. So I suggest trying what I had to do to get my report working.

Go to the edit page and select Hidden as report type. (Update of course to make this active)
Load the report onto your PC (just checking!)
Close this browser window
Back to edit page and set up password. (Do not change it! that seems to cause problems)
Test load. You should be asked for password and hopefully the report will appear.
The password stays active that day - or possibly until a re-start of the PC

Hope that works. I have never had this sort of problem before - but I had set passwords using the earlier version of the forum

If you are logged in as a Customer - not Forum Member you can go to
http://collaboration.genopro.com/Account.aspx
Scroll down to see 'Online publications' and click the View/hide link (You will have done this if you have used Passwords)
Against your list of publications there are two links, either edit or delete.
This is the link I was talking about. It will open a menu headed Publication setting.
This is the area where odd things can happen. I have again found that repeated changes of password can confuse the protection system of a report.
My suggestion is that you select the Hidden style of setting and Update it. The reason I suggest Hidden is that it seems to clear the password confusion but still hides you report.
Check that the report can now be loaded from this collaboration page.
Close the report and go back and set a password. Update to make it active
This worked for me

If you can not go through these steps then let us know. I was surprised you said you could not see your report

I bought a new laptop, and I moved Genopro 2.0.1.6 into windows 7, everything works except the Genomaps seem to be locked. I cannot use the tab button or double click on them to add or delete. The only way I can see whats in the other tab is to go into File, properties, then click on Genomaps...I even tried to start a new project and the other two genomaps are locked. Did I hit some thing by mistake?
