Hi,

I have been away from my Genopro work for 6 months or so and just got back into updating some of my data. I am now finding that I cannot display the genomaps using the SVG method in Internet Explorer. I have updated the Genopro software and Internet Explorer (first I tried v8 and now v9 and still doesn't work) but still no luck. I have attached a screen shot of the error message that I get. I am guessing that it is a problem generated by me changing from Internet Explorer 7 during the time I have been away from working with genopro so have only just noticed that SVG has stopped working.

I have looked through the forums and think I have found people with similar problems but I can't work out how to solve it in my case !

Any help, much appreciated

Regards

Andy

Get the same problem in Firefox and also in some other areas. Does it behave on a report on your PC? The error reports refer to a physical path on a PC but this is out of my experince and may be a red herring

Have just generated the report to my own hard drive. The same thing happens when I try and view the family tree. It seems to be Explorer that is not capable of displaying the tree anymore in the SVG format whether it has been uploaded to a server to display on a website or just created as a file on my hard drive. It's the viewing through explorer that has stopped working.

This is very frustrating as everthing worked really well before. All the family use PCs with explorer and now cannot view the tree. Would really appreciate any assistance from GenoPro as to if an update is on the way to allow it to work with later versions of Explorer ?

Many Thanks

Andy

I do not think this is an Explorer issue (for once). I get similar problems using Firefox. Now there is no error message when trying to open an svg but nothing happens. However in other areas the message does appear, referring to
'Physical Path E:\kunden\homepages\14\d330799973\www\familytree etc'
Do not know the significance of this but on the Options tab of the Report Generator I only have the third Link ticked, ie no reference to local files. However you have problems with a report on your PC.
When in doubt delete the program and re-install - unless someone comes up with a more sensible suggestion.

A couple of possible causes.

Have you changed your web host? It looks like your server is not happy serving .svg files.  Try publishing to the GenoPro site familytrees.genopro.com and see if you get a different result.  If so see http://www.genopro.com/help/report-generator/web-publishing/hosting/  to find out how to configure IIS for svg.

Also your report has been generated with an out of date Narrative Report skin.  Download the latest from this forum (http://support.genopro.com/Topic28332.aspx) and install as a custom skin in your GenoPro skins folder and then generate the report selecting this skin.

The version of the skin you are using does not know that IE9 supports SVG rendering natively and no longer needs the Adobe SVG viewer.

Hi there,

Thanks very much for the reply. I have had to revert back to IE8 now for other reasons anyway. So I have tried again using IE8. This time I only get the message in the small box that states that the SVG interface is not supported by the browser. (I don't get the big Server Error message using IE8)

I have tried uploading it to the familytrees.genopro.com and get exactly the same thing - presumably this means that it is not to do with the web host provider I use ?

I have tried the new skin and also get exactly the same thing. I have tried from a different laptop and also get the same result.

I'm afraid I didn't understand the bit about configuring IIS for SVG but as the same happened on the familytrees.genopro.com site I'm guessing that is not relevant now ?

Is it possible I have the wrong SVG viewer installed on my laptop ?

Thanks for your help with this, hope you may have some more ideas to get it working again ..........

I watched your family tree to FamilyTrees.GenoPro with IE9, and I see perfectly the SVG map.
The problem is not on the server.

Andy, like Vittorino I can also view your SVG tree on familytrees using IE9.  But suspect it IS the server as the server error only occurs on your web host  (1&1).  Maybe you should contact their support and ask them to check if it is configured correctly for .svg files.

When you say
I have tried uploading it to the familytrees.genopro.com and get exactly the same thing
do you mean that you get an IIS server error page or do you mean the message box saying the browser does not support svg?

The latter can occur with a slow connection.  The script waits around for the svg to load for a period of time and if it does not complete then the error box is displayed. I think somewhere on this forum I gave details of how to increase the delay.

If you really must use ie8 or below perhaps removing Adobe SVG Viewer and then re-installing it may help.  But I strongly suggest using a modern browser with built-in SVG rendering.

(N.B. Make sure your clear the browser cache after re-publishing your tree to ensure you load the later version (check bottom of home page for versdion info))

Hi there,

Thanks for all your efforts in helping me try to get this to work. I have unistalled the genopro software and the SVG viewer. I also cleared the cache by deleting temporary internet files and cookies etc. and started from scratch.

After re-installing genopro and the svg viewer the home page does show the correct verion of genopro and the correct skin. However I am still getting the same message when trying to view the tree. When I say the same message, since reverting back to IE8 I now only get the small box saying "Genomaps may not display correctly as the required SVG interface may not be supported by this browser'. I do not get the server error message any more that I got with IE9. (I use other software programmes that don't work with IE9 so can't change to IE9 - unless I can run both at once ?)

Since you can view the tree ok on familytrees.genopro but I still can't, (I get the same message described above), am I correct in assuming that it is not a server issue but a timeout issue that you referred to ? If so, would you be able to direct me to how solve the timeout issue please ?

Thanks again

Andy

Hi Andy,
After some searching I finally found the post dealing with the SVG timer issue

I have also attached to this post a version of script.js with the timeout doubled to 2 mins.  Either place it it the scripts folder of your custom skin and regenerate the report or replace the same file in an already published report (e.g. using FTP)
