This refer to the most recent English Narrative Report (ENR 2013-02-17)
1 - In the original ENR, it looked like pictures could be placed in a specific folder as specified in the parameter options panel. The “Browse” button did not work but a folder number could still be given. The natural place was of course a sub-folder of the the output folder. This however should have been a warning that things were not quite right.
2 - If the folder where to put the pictures was not indicated, the pictures were put into a sub-folder of the ouput file with the name “pictures”. The pictures in this folder were copied from the original ones and renamed; they did not bear any more their original names. In contrast the thumbnails if generated in the “thumbnails” folder were still bearing the names of the original pictures. In the “Sources and citations”, a reference to a picture pointed to the page that would display the picture: the page was effectively in the output folder and it displayed the right picture but the hyperlink was missing between the reference and the WEB page for the picture.
3 - When a picture folder was given (see later if the name was “Pictures”), the name of the folder was totally ignored and a “Pictures” sub-folder was created. This time it contained the copies of the original pictures, without any renaming. But, as above, as regards “Sources and citations”, hyperlinks are missing in the case of pictures.
4 - When a picture folder was given and the name was “Pictures” a “pictures” sub-folder was created. This time it contained the copies of the original pictures, with renaming. But, still no hyperlink for references to “Sources and citations” in the case of pictures.
Turning now to the latest English Narrative Report (ENR 2013-02-17), problems of same kind remain with however some differences:
The “Browse” button still does not work for giving picture folder. It is not acted upon anyway. Get rid of it? If no picture folder is indicated or if a picture folder is indicated, whether his name is or not “Pictures”, a “media” sub-folder is created, pictures are copied to the folder and renamed as above and still no hyperlinks although the pages do exist in the generated output.
I believe that the approach in the new skin is the right one – as regards the uniqueness of the “media” sub-folder Therefore why not suppress completely the parameter dealing with the picture folder name?
But the wrong one as regards the renaming of the pictures – although I admit that this ensures that no two pictures will have the same name in the “media”sub-folder (but I am pretty sure this could be achieved in another way).
But most crucial is the missing hyperlink (reverse link) between the reference and the picture. Why not when references to an individual, a family, a marriage, an occupation, a place, or education have proper hyperlinks?
