Hi,
Is there a way to buy an upgrade for a 2011 license key? Or do we have to buy a whole new license for Genopro again?
If there is an upgrade available, where can we buy it? I haven't found any link.
Thanks, Fabio Chelly

The easiest way is to use the built-in feature: Open Inbox and Online Backups. GenoPro 2016 will open any .gno file you previously created. By the way, according to our records, we have some of your backups available in our server.

I have been a license holder for 10 years or so [edit: Just checked... probably longer than 11 years, not that it matters]. I'm a happy owner of GenoPro 2011.
I pretty much use it as a way to keep track of relatives and sources and visually track lineage. I love the genogram, which is the primary thing that brought me to GenoPro to begin with.
After years of relative silence on the GenoPro front, I was excited to learn of GenoPro 2016 and GenoProX. I have looked over the features of both, and aside from the Problem Spotter, everything seems extraneous to me. I do not collaborate with others, I do not track medical records, and I'm not going to join another Facebook.
I guess, beyond the Problem Spotter, are there any improvements that affect the simple user like me? If not, will I still be able to use GenoPro 2011 indefinitely? I've seen posts about licenses expiring, and that has me worried.
Thanks.

You are welcome to use GenoPro 2011 indefinitely. Licenses do not expire, however anyone downloadingGenoPro from our website automatically gets the latest update, and sinceGenoPro 2016 is an update requiring a new registration key, downloading the newupdate may appear to some user as their license expired, however if they go to download http://www.genopro.com/2011/ , their old license key will work just as before.

Thanks for your answer. As for GenoproX, is there a beta version available or at least a few pictures of what we'll see? When will it be available?

We do have an internal version we use among ourselves to communicate. We are still working to define the JSON format for the family tree and genogram data, so there is no guarantee the data will be preserved. What is currently working:- Basic display and editing of family trees with multiple GenoMaps.
- Print to printer and/or save GenoMaps to PDF.
- Unlimited Undo/redo.
- Communication for our new collaboration module: Chat, send & receive files, RSVPs.
The decision to use JSON as the native data format for family trees (instead of XML for GenoPro 2016) was made a few months ago so we can use JavaScript to generate HTML reports. There is still XML stuff for the configuration and the chat logs I want to upgrade to JSON before releasing an alpha version. For sure we will have an alpha version available by the end of this year. Things are moving much faster than I thought, as I have experience building genealogy software.

When I purchased a Gold Key, you said that it included all future releases. Are you playing Fast and Loose with new rules, now that you've released 2016?
I purchased a Gold Key BEFORE it was called 2011. It is still GenoPro, right? Now that you call it 2016, are you trying to are you backing out on your promise to provide all future releases at no cost?

Dear Mr. Miller, thank you for being a faithful customer since 2005. More then backing up on our promise we are asking for your support to completely re-build GenoProX from scratch. We have great new ideas that will add tremendous value to genealogy, genograms, the health community and family interrelationships. In addition to that the computer world has shifted to multiplatform in the last 10 years. Re-building GenoProX to work on these environments is a monumental task for a single developer. The paid upgrade to GenoPro 2016 is a means to help us bring GenoProX to life and to create a truly sustainable model that can continue innovating for generations to come. Please visit our YouTube GenoProX channel ( or the video at the bottom of the page http://www.genopro.com/GenoProX/ ) to see the future of our software. You always have the option to continue using your permanent key, which we will continue honoring.
I apologize also for using the word “upgrade” when my intention was to maintain the software “updated”. French is my native language and until recently, I interchangeably used both words, often using both words in the same sentence. We appreciate your support and hope you join our efforts. You will see GenoProX will offer you and your family tremendous value, and our crowdfunding packages offer great discounts at http://www.genopro.com/GenoProX/crowdfunding/
