As per the title, I think it would be useful to "tag" the position of a person in a picture. Maybe this is something for GenoPro X.
Currently most of my old pictures are "group" photos; I usually crop each face individually and assign each new picture to a different individual.
This however loses the "context" of the picture, as well as being quite tedious (for example having to re-input date and location taken).
It would be good to be able to upload a group picture only once, and then "pick" them like we do for sources. Ideally we should then be able to "tag" the location of the individual in the picture, a bit like Facebook does.

A feature similar to this has been available in the Narrative Report for some considerable time but probably most users are unaware of it.

Several years ago I reported the use of the djvu format at http://support.genopro.com/Topic5795.aspx?PageIndex=2&Keywords=djvu#bm5805. Many links are not working now but the facilities are available. The format can be opened in several programs, such as Irfan or the later Windows viewer but to get the full effect you either use a browser add-in or the Djuviewer. I have put this with an example at http://www.appleshaw.plus.com/GenoPro/.If you load the file into the viewer, when you move the cursor over the image text appears. There is a free image editor, Solo, which was originally supplied by LizardTech but can be found on the web - as can the plug-in installer. The version I have (5.0) is 8.7Mb. If you have problems finding these 2 utilities I can add them to the site

Thanks.
Unfortunately the Djvu format seems to be dead, and the HTML solution is a bit too complex/cumbersome for me. For now I'm using the notes field of the picture to describe the people, or adding another image with a "legend".
In any case a "tagging" facility in Genopro X would still be welcome.

Mark Twain said "The reports of my death have been greatly exaggerated." Same for djvu. There are plug-ins available for 64 bit browsers, although admittedly Firefox41 thinks they are corrupt - despite running in IE11. Another useful feature of the DjVu format is that it is possible, using the Solo editor, to add links, so that having identified a person on the image, clicking the image can transfer to the corresponding details. Having said that the example mentioned above has the code for this but it points to a defunct version of my web page. However it can be made to work and in a report, where this would belong, the link would be relative to the image.

I think the ideal situation would be to be able to have tagged images with the need for a plugin or a conversion process on the images. One approach that 'may' be feasible is to extract exif tag data from jpg images automatically and use them to create HTML 'area' tags and hyperlinks.
I guess many of us already use face tagging software such as Google Picasa. I have recently moved all my 20k photos to Google Photos (for free!!) and I am looking to link reports directly to these images rather than having to have separate copies. I'm in the UK and Google Photos here doesn't allow face grouping to be turned on, however a quick search revealed a trick using a VPN link (I used Tunnelbear) to the USA where face grouping is allowed and then I could turn the setting on and it then stays on even when not connected via a VPN to the USA. I have yet to examine exif data in the Google Photos copies to see if they would be suitable.
