Sometimes an image rotated in Windows does not have its EXIF data updated to reflect the required rotation. 
To fix this open the image in IrfanView and press Shift & J (N.B. requires the IrfanView plugin 'Lossless jpg rotation/crop' to be installed) 
In the resulting dialogue select the required rotation if not already correct in IrfanView and ensure Rebuild EXIF is set

My photo is displayed sideways not upright as expected.
Is there a procedure to correct this?
