I moved this post from topic Translating family names from one language to another.
beraha (9/2/2005) Will it be possible to generate a combine report on both languages? I mean, that in the same report (the same html page), it will be able to read the details in English and below it, the same details in the second languages (ex: Hebrew) with all the translated names and narratives. This is quite a difficult task. Just to generate a report in a different language is already a big challenge. I am working on supporting multiple language dictionary per skin and also on a tool to create a name dictionary. By combining the name dictionary and using the proper language dictionary from the skin, GenoPro can generate a report in a foreign language. Generating the same report in two languages is another thing.

Wow, I am impressed. You are pushing the boundaries of the report generator.May I ask how you do it? Do you use two phrases, one in English and the other in Hebrew? How do you deal with the RTL (Right-to-Left) text?

I am sorry to disappoint you It was just a sample, which I edit manually using Microsoft FrontPage. I just wanted to show you a sample of the design I would expect from genopro report generator to create. Do you think it is possible? Using Frontage, you can configure each phrase to LTR or RTL, but of course, the problem is to generate such a repot, using html code without any tool like frontpage. edit!!!! I looked into the Html code of that sample. Before each line of a sentence in hebrew, there is a code like this: <p dir="rtl" align="justify"><span lang="he">

beraha Using Frontage, you can configure each phrase to LTR or RTL, but of course, the problem is to generate such a repot, using html code without any tool like frontpage. I think that you can do with Frontpage you can do on your own writing the same thing. If that is so then all you have to do is create the proper skin to write each paragraph: one in Hebrew and another in English. What GenoPro should do is give the user a parameter he can change during the runtime in which the Report generator will know which dictionary to use. It may look like this: parameter="HE" dir="RTL" GenoPro creates the paragraph in Hebrew. parameter="EN" dir="LTR" GenoPro creates the paragraph in English. The report generator will check / use the parameter in each paragraph and so will create the page as you like. The big question: Can GenoPro do it?

The big question: Can GenoPro do it? That is the 10 Million $ question : As I said before, in my sample, Before each line of a sentence in hebrew, there is a code like this: <p dir="rtl" align="justify"><span lang="he"> I can't see why Genopro report generator can't create a similar html page. Maybe Dan has an answer to that question

GenoPro will have a built-in RTL detection, with a possible override. I can create something smart and simple to use.

There might be one other much simpler solution! You might include in a template an option that there is a link on top/bottom of page to another language/s. In a report generator there might be just an option "create reports in multiple languages", and the only thing one should do is then choosing which ones he/she wants included in report. It could be done simoultaniously creating a report from different skins including links in on each page to a parallel one named i.e. ind001en.html and in001el.html ...
- "εν οιδα οτι ουδεν οιδα" (Σωκρατησ) - "The only thing that I know is that I don't know anything" (Socrates)

I can create something smart and simple to use. Will it be able to select whether the Genogram will display names in English or in the translated language? This is an important feature in the case that the original name fields were written in English, but we will like to display those names in other language. i.e. - I will fill the name fields in English, but can show the same name immediately in Hebrew using the "names dictionary". That way, we will be able to export the data to EMF or PNG using the translated names.

V.L.o It could be done simoultaniously creating a report from different skins including links in on each page to a parallel one named i.e. ind001en.html and ind001el.html ...I agree. It is far simpler to generate two (or more) pages, in different languages, than combining them on a single page. As for naming the file, I am more in favor to have the language code at the begining so all files of one language can be grouped together, and/or perhaps in a separate folder: ie /en/ind001.htm and /el/ind001.htm . beraha I will fill the name fields in English, but can show the same name immediately in Hebrew using the "names dictionary". That way, we will be able to export the data to EMF or PNG using the translated names.I am big on code-reuse. Once the name dictionary is loaded, it could be used directly on the genogram.
