When I export files from my .GED files to .GNO files usingthe following compatibility solution, found in the Forum, the files created arenot usable by GenoPro and as near as I can tell not usable by anyone else. The procedure used is as follows: Select the file Export, to GEDCOM Format (Enter the destination path for the resultingfile) Chose Charset “(UTF-7) (65000) Note: (UTF-8) required in the forum solutionwas not an available option. (Pressed Enter) (The GEDCOM file created is not usable byGenoPro. When attempting to import theGEDCOM file created, the following message is received: Cannot import text file because its formatis unknown to GenoPro. Please supply avalid XML or GedCom file.

Not sure what you are doing with Export/Import? There are two ways to export your GNO file, both selected from the file Export menu. In most cases the first option is preferable as this will give a gedcom file other programs can use more easily. You write 'When I export files from my .GED files', which I do not understand. Are you exporting from a different program? If not how do you want to use a GenoPro export?

Thanks for the reply.
Originally, while having my .GNO file open in GenoPro I exported and .GED file using the “(UTF-8) Recommended" option. The file created can be opened by GenoPro.
My problem is that the individual too which I sent the file is unable to import/open the .GED file using their ancestry application. I do not know what application program they are using.
I tried opening the file using Internet but it would not open.
My understanding is that .GNO files should be usable in most of the ancestry applications.
Since the individual I sent the .GNO file is quite computer literate and deeply involved in DNA/Ancestry projects my assumption was that the problem was mine.
If you believe that it would be helpful in solving this problem, I will request the name of the application being used by the individual to which I sent the .GNO file
Thank you for any help you can provide.

If you want to export your GenoPro data as a gedcom then I think you are using the wrong option. First go to http://support.genopro.com/Topic25071.aspx and scroll to the last post and download the latest Gedcom Skin. If you have not installed a skin before, then look at http://support.genopro.com/Topic30691.aspx
From the File/Export menu choose the third option 'Export to GEDCOM via the Report Generator...' This will open the Report Generator menu. In the box labelled Report Skin choose the skin '\Customizes Export to Gedcom\*' (if you have not been able to download the new skin then the basic version will probably be OK) This will normally open a menu where options can be set but the basic set should work for you. The resulting gedcom file ahould import into other programs with only minor notes.

Prior to selecting the export function, described originally in this post, I tried exporting from the .GNO file to a .GED file as you suggested. The following "Gedcom.js" file is received that can be opened by GenoPro. By-the way, I have downloaded and installed the latest skin. Confusing, isn't it.
Thank you for your help.

If you are running IE 10 then you could be hitting the same problem as in this topic http://support.genopro.com/Topic18425.aspx
Check that you are running version 2013.12.13 of the Export to Gedcom skin. To do this, under the Generate Report dialog, tick the box under the Options Tab to prevent the Configuration Parameters dialog from being displayed, then chose the Gedom Export Report and run it. The Report Log box should contain something like ie Generating report to 'D:\Users\Public\GenoPro Reports\HarryPotter\' Cloning document HarryPotter... Opening configuration file Config.xml for skin '\Gedcom_2013.12.13\* (Export to Gedcom)'... Loading Dictionary.xml... [0.00] Processing template 'Gedcom.js'... To enable display of parameter settings, untick the box under 'Options' tab of this dialog. Base skin version 2013.12.13Gedcom output has been written to file D:\Users\Public\GenoPro Reports\HarryPotter\HarryPotter.ged i.e. you should see 2013.12.13 as Base skin version. If not then check again how to install a new skin. If it does show as 2013.12.13 then let me know you OS version, architecture (32 or 64 bit) and IE version please.

Thanks for the help.
It turned out that I did not have the latest skin version. I had assumed the 2013.08.28 version was the latest. All works well now.
The one part that confused me a little is that when I open the reports generator, and select the save to .GED files, the file opens in Word Pad automatically vice saving the file, while should I select the file/export function, the file is automatically saved.
Thanks again for your help.
