I wonder why Report Generator (with finnish Dictionary.xml) gives timelines somewhat strange?

Any ideas how to fix this.

The problem seems to be related with images (or icons).

Make sure all your images exist in your Finnish skin images folder. Also make sure this Dic section has not been altered/translated:

 <TimelineEducation  T="education"   C1="#9ACD32" C2="yellowgreen" />
 <TimelineFamily_MF  T="family_MF" P="family_MFX" C1="#2E8B57" C2="seagreen" />
 <TimelineFamily_FM  T="family_MF" P="family_MFX" C1="#2E8B57" C2="seagreen" />
 <TimelineFamily_MM  T="family_MM"   P="family_MMX" C1="#2E8B57" C2="seagreen" />
 <TimelineFamily_FF  T="family_FF"   P="family_FFX" C1="#2E8B57" C2="seagreen" />
 <TimelineFamily_F  T="family_"   C1="#2E8B57" C2="seagreen" />
 <TimelineFamily_M  T="family_"   C1="#2E8B57" C2="seagreen" />
 <TimelineIndividual_M  T="gender_M" P="gender_MX" C1="#1E90FF" C2="dodgerblue" />
 <TimelineIndividual_F  T="gender_F" P="gender_FX" C1="#DC143C" C2="crimson" />
 <TimelineIndividual_P  T="gender_P" P="gender_PX" C1="#D2691E" C2="chocolate" />
 <TimelineIndividual_  T="gender_"   C1="#8A2BE2" C2="blueviolet" />
 <TimelineContact  T="occupancy"   C1="#FFA500" C2="orange" />
 <TimelineOccupation  T="occupation"   C1="#8B008B" C2="darkmagenta" />

Hi

You wrote "...Make sure all your images exist in your Finnish skin images folder...".  I haven't touched images -folder at all so I suppose all images exist (?)

Are there any other sections in Dictionary that I should not translate except this "TimelineEducation" section.  I've tried to translate allways when I see "T="  the text that is between "" marks.

If your images folder is OK then the problem must be because you translated the T strings of the above list 13 lines.
Nae wonder the system cannot find the icons because these T strings are actually the icons/images filenames! The comment above the list says: 'T is icon .gif filename'.
Correct this list and tell us if the problem disappeared.
As far as I know, all the other Dic T strings have to be translated.
For your info, this list is not a 'TimelineEducation' section but rather, I would say, the display section of the timelines: object types c/w icons and colours.

Creating a rule won't be easy because genetive is differently formatted if it is singular or plural

Please remember that you only need deal with the quite limited enviroment of the a GenoPro data file, not the whole universe. Possessive/gentive forms are only used for the name of a Individual, and by definition they are only singular. Having said that, the example given in the Dictionary does not appear to handle all the cases in your example, so try changing the English setting to:

<PossessiveProperNoun T="ti$=din:ka$=jan:li$=ljenSad[rn])$=$1en:s$=ksen:tar$=ttarten:kk(.$)=k$1:pp(.$)=p$1:tt(.$)=t$1Sad.$)=$1n:" />

I did manage to download script56. chm BUT not correctly.  Have you got this file and in that case could you please send me a copy?

The file script56.chm can be downloaded from Microsoft but if this fails send me your email in a private message on this forum and I will send you a copy.

Hello!  Yes, after correcting "the icons" -section to it's original form it seems to work now.  Thanks!  BR, Jarmo

A. In output there are two (there are more but I try to tackle on by one) strange translations (translations below, in english, are word by word translations):

  1. Hän oli kaksi veli nimeltään Kari ja Veli-Matti.

(In english: ”He was two brother named Kari and Veli-Matti.)

This should be:

Hänellä oli kaksi veljeä nimeltään Kari ja Veli-Matti.

(In english: ”He had two brothers named Kari and Veli-Matti.”)

  1. Hän on nuorin kolme lapsesta lapsi.

(In english: “He is youngest of three children child”)

This should be:

Hän on nuorin kolmesta lapsesta.

(In english: ”He is youngest of three children”)

These translations are not coming from “PossessiveProperNoun” if it is used only for individual names but where are they coming from?  Any ideas?

B. Another peculiarity (see picture below) in translated report is that there is missing Juho (Johan) Siipola’s father.  His mother is there (Wilhelmiina Gustafsdotter (Siipola)

Juho’s father exist in genomap (see below) and if I eg. use Family Wizard I see Gustaf,  Wilhelmiina and all their children exist as expected.  Any idea why it’s missing from report?

1) I think Genopro should create a Finnish Translation site and move this topic into it.
2) Ref to 183942 points A.1 & 2:
With the info given, I don't think anybody can help. You have, at least, to show us how you set your phrase templates! and post them. Somebody may then advise.
I also reiterate what Anna suggested: to achieve a proper translation, you have to master the various components of a template as mentioned in Genopro SDK page http://www.genopro.com/sdk/Report-Generator/Phrase/.
If you do not master the matter, you're going to clutter this forum with questions. It's in both You and forum Readers/Users interest.
This will also help if you have some kind of programming knowledge. You could, for example, edit Lang.vbs, do a search on a phrase (say PhBirth (line 328)) and try to understand how the script creates/manipulates variables/fields and passes these variables as parameters (15 of them in this case, starting from strName to strGender) to the phrase.
3) for your post B., in table layout -> Individual, can you confirm that Gustaf is mentioned in Juho's father's column? because it's not clear with your 2nd screenshot long horiz union line.

I reiterate what jcguasp has already said,

With the info given, I don't think anybody can help. You have, at least, to show us how you set your phrase templates! and post them. Somebody may then advise.

Unless you provide your translated Finnish Dictionary.xml as an attachment to your posts regarding translation issues then it is unlikely that anyone is going to be able to help you.
